Have you lost your lockdown weight yet?

I’m not overweight according to BMI but I have gradually put on 10-12 pounds over the last year or two and I’m at the stage where I have to lose it or buy all new clothes.

Everything feels uncomfortable and I caught sight of myself in a shop window yesterday and I looked visibly bigger. I’m small so 10-12 lbs notices and I look dumpy. The extra weight just doesn’t suit me. I’ve also suddenly developed a dodgy knee this week which I hope is temporary but also a prompt to sort myself out.

I am not as active as I was pre-lockdown and I have been doing home workouts instead of getting back to the gym so that is definitely a factor.

Have you put on weight over the last two years or kept the same? Have you kept up your fitness levels? Is there a secret to gradually losing the weight or do I have to go for it? (not much motivation for that tbh.)

I gained loads of weight during the first lockdown because I was pregnant so naturally gaining weight but also not leaving the house so eating too much through stress and boredom and not moving around very much. I needed to lose almost 4 stone in total to be a healthy weight again so decided to crack on with it finally in January and have lost it all plus some extra. I started with the couch to 5k and now I run 5km twice a week and 10km once a week. I lift weights a couple of times a week and do HIIT workouts at home 3x a week too plus walk/run an average of 20k steps a day.

DH bought me an Apple Watch for Christmas and it really shocked me how poor my cardio fitness was for someone my age plus how few steps I actually did. It’s helped motivate me, now have an above average cardio fitness and my resting heart rate has dropped from 81 to 58! I really recommend a watch for this reason.

I put on a lockdown stone. Lost it all in a week recently, after catching covid... I cannot recomend it really, but it's nice to feel more like myself again. I'd convinced myself the swimming pool mirrors were just really unflattering, but it turns out my arse just really was that large. I look normal in them again now.

Wow 20k steps. I’m lucky to reach 4k at the moment, not helped by the summer holidays and teenage dc who don’t want to do anything.

Also don’t fancy losing weight by being ill and knowing me would probably put it all back on anyway.

I haven't lost my baby weight yet. I had him 40 years ago.

I'm on a similar position to you. I'm about the same number of lbs up too! Confused

Adversity · 02/08/2022 09:24

I’m in the same sort of place as you, bmi further up the range but still fine. I have cut back on carbs a bit and upped my walking and go cycling. In about three weeks I have lost 4lb.

I’ve put on two stone and I look like a little Buddha. I literally don’t look in the mirror anymore and have stopped buying clothes. I know what I need to do but, frankly, I’ve just got lazy 😢

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 02/08/2022 09:43

I'm in the exact situation as you OP. I just bought a bunch of looser clothes to deal with it!
But seriously I need to do something physical to deal with my waistline.

MakeadealwithGod · 02/08/2022 09:44

Yes I seem to have put the weight on around my middle and it’s not flattering.

I love the irony of putting on weight by avoiding Covid then losing it again because of Covid. 😀

I'm about 10lb bigger than when I comfortably fit in my clothes. However I'm not prepared to diet unless it's for health reasons and I'm not prepared to excercise to lose weight. Trying to do X number of steps daily wouldn't feel like a positive thing.

However, I do have outdoor activities that I love that also involve spending time with people and makes me feel really good about myself, so I'm happy with my level of excercise that happens as a by product of the enjoyment factor. I love how strong and fit my body feels and that's my focus.
At some point my weight will head down too.
