Do your kids like Beyonce?

My 9 year old dd really likes Beyonce. I haven't bought her the new album but she's heard a bit on the radio and she really likes it. She likes her old stuff too. The new stuff seems like it's not really geared towards a younger audience (especially with the album cover). A lot of her school friends and friends from after school activities seem to really like her too. I hadn't realised she was still popular with kids. DD really wants to go and see her live next time she tours (will cross that bridge when I come to it!). Was just wondering if anyone else's kids like her and how they deal with it when their kids like more adult themed music?

Nope

BiscoffSundae · 01/08/2022 20:17

Don’t think they know who she is 10 and 11

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 01/08/2022 20:21

Mine don't know who she is.

DS is 9 and likes things like Fallout Boy, Beastie Boys and Travis Scott. DD is 5 and she is a Taylor Swift fan but that might just be because I am one so it is what she is most exposed to.

Tbh I think they would find current Beyonce boring.

My 12yo doesn't know who she is

@ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler My dd loves Taylor Swift too! I thought kids might find Beyonce a bit dated- I think crazy in love and Single Ladies are quite dated!

Well, crazy in love is almost 20 years old!

PinkBuffalo · 01/08/2022 20:29

I not have kids but I love Beyoncé and Taylor swift songs! I am mid to late 30s

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 01/08/2022 20:34

Mine teens don't know any of her music. They are into either retro stuff like Eminem and Rolling Stones or very current usually Korean stuff!

ISeeTrees · 01/08/2022 20:38

My 5 year old does, single ladies is one of her favourite songs and she copies the dance moves (tries). I was wondering how age appropriate it was Blush

TwoBeeBrutallyFrank · 01/08/2022 20:38

No because her voice is too processed. They prefer older music where the voices sound real, like Aretha, Ella, Annie, Barbara, Tina. I'm sure she has a beautiful voice in real life, but we've never gotten to hear it because they mess with voices too much these days with pitch correction etc.

Sandysandwich · 01/08/2022 20:40

I don't listen to radio so my children don't know who she is, they just hear my playlists in the car and enjoy them, sometimes they ask for specific bands or songs, none of which are geared towards children.

My dad still loved the rolling stones and pink floyd when I was a kid so until I got my own music taste (at about 10) they were my favourite bands

BusySittingDown · 01/08/2022 20:40

They're not that bothered by her. My youngest loves Jay Z though!

Watch out if you get her new album for your DC - it's a bit sweary, if that bothers you.

puppypuppydoodah · 01/08/2022 20:55

@ISeeTrees That's sweet! My dd used to dance to single ladies when she was younger- I think at that age they like the sound more than listen to the words- it's now dd's a bit older that I worry about the lyrics

@Sandysandwich Yes, I think when we're children we are hugely influenced by what we hear those around us listen to. My younger sister (she's 25) grew up loving Beyonce and she was a huge part of her childhood musically and I think that's possibly where dd's grown to love her from!

No my DD9, couldn't name any of her songs.

JasmineVioletRose · 01/08/2022 21:11

Eek yes it's not a very appropriate album cover fo kids is it.

That's a shame. 💛Beyonce

My family and I are HUGE Beyonce lover's, so much so that my husband and I named our DD Beyonce-toue. DD absolutely adores her so much so that she puts her music videos on the big TV and sometimes tries to hug it!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

@DianneITV

I don't understand. What is your dd's name?!

megletthesecond · 02/08/2022 20:09

Not really. They're 13 and 15.
I have her on in the house but she's an old pop star to them.

DD does like Beyonce wind machine hair though. We do it in the car with the air con on full blast.

I think this is a piss take @britneyisfree, have seen a few similar posts.

StealingYourWiFi · 02/08/2022 20:11

I have seen beyonce many times live, she is absolutely fantastic. I have held her hand when she walked past the front row too. Definitely see her live!

VladmirsPoutine · 02/08/2022 20:59

Yes. All the kids in my family love Beyonce and think she's a true icon but that's also largely in part because my siblings and I are huge Beyonce fans so they were indoctrinated pretty early in their lives.
