Meat left out of the fridge- safe or unsafe

Like an idiot I completely forgot I had a tecos order coming today and was out. My neighbour kindly took it in and it sat in her porch in the crates it was delivered in behind her front door.

There was some frozen ice cream and chips which have defrosted but I've still put in the freezer. Also some meat (some ham, pork, mini cooked sausages and mince meat ) that still felt cold as they were still in with the now defrosted but still very cold chips and ice cream.

I've put them all I the fridge and thought if they didn't smell off when I open them in the next couple of days they would be ok - am I being totally stupid?

I think it will be fine especially if they still felt cold. Certainly the ham and sausages, but I'd probably eat the pork and mince too if they smell OK.

Sounds fine to me.

How long were they out for?

Nothing kind about taking it in and not sticking your frozen stuff in her freezer!!
If it was only an hour or two, I'd eat it.

Undecidedandtorn · 01/08/2022 18:35

It was about 4 hours - I had to pick up my kid from somewhere and I wouldn't have been able to get back and still made it in time to get him. She was very apologetic about not putting the stuff away but her own fridge freezer was full.

Fridges have only been standard in homes since the 1970s - much later than I realised. People used to go shopping every 1-2 days so things would be out of the fridge for a couple of days sometimes. They would have a cool shelf to keep things out of direct sunlight but it would probably be room temperature.

Ice cream shouldn't be refrozen should it?

Undecidedandtorn · 01/08/2022 23:56

Thanks everyone - sounds like I should be OK.

Ice cream shouldn't be refrozen should it?

I thought that was one of the safer things!

Ice cream definitely shouldn't be refrozen. It's one of the worst ones!!!!

KarrotKake · 02/08/2022 07:51

I'd be more worried about the frozen stuff.
I think I'd bin the defrosted stuff, and eat the rest quickly - or freeze it, and eat at the end of this week (ie don't freeze for long so you remember the history).

LIZS · 02/08/2022 07:52

Bin the ice cream

JimmiChoux · 02/08/2022 08:08

Definitely bin the ice cream.

floweringpoppies · 02/08/2022 08:19

@Undecidedandtorn I've had a quick google and most articles say not to. The one that says it's ok also says you need to eat the next day!

I had a friend who had food poisoning from re freezing ice cream so it's always worried me
