Best stop off for a family between Carlisle and Glasgow

Any good recommendations along this stretch? Kids are 10 and 7. Happy with even just a great park, but open to attractions etc.

The latter half of the journey is Carlisle to Glasgow so somewhere along this route (but not Glasgow itself).

Thanks.

Drumlanrig Castle or New Lanark Visitor Centre

Strathclyde park

Burrell collection?

Introvertedbuthappy · 01/08/2022 17:12

Walby Farm Park is good, or Hadrian's Wall.

Mabie Farm Park in Dumfries

An hour from Carlisle and then an hour and half on to Glasgow

Cream o Galloway farm park is amazing but will add time to your journey.

Moffat ISA nice wee town with some kids stuff if I remember.

There's a lead mining museum where they can hunt for gold somewhere off the m74.

Summerlee in Coatbridge is also great- has a mine, a tram, an old village and a really good adventure playground and is mostly free!

If it was me I'd just stop at Strathclyde Park get a good run around.

These are all great thanks! I'll google them all.

Strathclyde Park at Motherwell. (Although by then you're almost by Glasgow).

Dumfries, Drumlanrig are a bit far off - unless you want to fill an afternoon. I would stop at Moffat - it has a boating lake as you come in to the town and a few cafes for a bite - probably 10 mins off the m74.

HardStareBear · 01/08/2022 19:06

I'd recommend Moffat too. 5 minutes off the motorway, there's a nice park on the right as you come into the town and there are some nice little cafes for a snack. There's also The Moffat Toffee Shop which is my kids' first request when we visit!

I wouldn't stop for that distance I'd just keep driving.

But Moffat or Lockerbie are good shouts.
