Do Ss routinely check a family’s finances ? Does it have any part in the investigation?
can it be used against a family if they are struggling financially

They can't check your bank account unless they asked and you co-operated with them, (it would be unusual for them to be asking) or there was some strange financial connection to possible abuse, in which case it would require the police to be involved.

Are you scared they're going to find you're massively overdrawn or something?

Child protection investigations are about ensuring a child's needs are being met usually because someone has suggested or claimed they're not.

can it be used against a family if they are struggling financially? Not if they're prioritizing their child/ren.

If they find a parent is living in poverty they aren't interested, as long as the parent is successfully meeting their child/ren's needs regardless. How and what you're spending a limited income on, can be seen as poor prioritizing.

Might be able to help more if you can explain what you're actually scared of?
(I realize undergoing CP stuff is scary in itself)

Families financial situation is taken into account during cp proceedings yes. And it is better just to work with them and be open. But they have no power to access or check your actual bank account.
