Help me out here - how do I find the results of a court case completed today?

I'm the victim, currently on holiday and not in UK, is it possible to find out a person's sentence online?

If not, how would I go about finding out? I guess 101 wouldn't work from here, or if it's even the right way to go about it?! Would they ring me to update if away from UK?

I need to know if they are gone or back in the area so I can come back prepared.

Tia

Could you email the court or solicitor?

BeeEllEyePeePeeEye · 01/08/2022 16:48

Would they be able to release the information over email? This is all (fortunately) new to me and I've only had dealings with the police officer who would ring to give me updates and the local victim services.

have you done a google search on the defendant's name.
if the police brought the case can you contact the relevant constabulary, or the CPS.
look up online local newspaper.
not every case is reported.

The police officer you dealt with or the barrister for the CPS should be able to tell you the outcome. The court where the case was heard can probably do so too - it's not a secret. Very frequently sentencing happens at a later date. I served on a jury this time last year. When the verdict was reached the judge set the date for sentencing a month later. Sentencing actually happened nearly three months after the verdict was reached.

When I had a similar situation i just rang the court and they told me. There's nothing confidential, it's all public record.

I've done the Google search, found what time he was due to attend court. No further information and I doubt it'll be reported by even local media. It's low key in the grand scheme of things crime wise but obviously not to me.

I guess I could ring the local station, but I also don't wanna be a pain in the butt 😅

Can you contact the court clerk?

Lineala · 01/08/2022 16:59

Call the court that was dealing with the matter and ask them. Open between 10 and 4.

When I needed information, I had to give specifics as to why, on the basis it wouldn’t be handed over to ‘just anybody’ because of GDPR. Be prepared to fight your case & stand your ground, OP, as sad as it is. Hope you’re ok 💐

Right, spoken with victim services who put me in touch with victim care and I should be able to find out tomorrow what's happened.

Thanks all.
