At a festival yesterday and the person behind me literally balanced their phone on the top of my head so they could film the band

Fuck's sake just enjoy the gig. It wasnt even a young people kind of band, the band are the same age as me (early 40/s) they encourage you to sing and dance along.

Yet someone thought the experienced would be best enjoyed by filming it and using a stranger's head to hold up their hand.

And yes, I did remove my head sharpish.

That’s both horrifying and hilarious! Did you just move your head? I’d have had to give them a death state and ask WTAF?

SleepingStandingUp · 01/08/2022 12:11

Bastille??

35965a · 01/08/2022 12:12

It doesn’t surprise me, I’m short and I’m very used to being used as an armrest for dickheads. A camera tripod is a new one though!

SleepingStandingUp · 01/08/2022 12:12

What did they do after you moved your head?

Thatboymum · 01/08/2022 12:13

That’s hilarious hahaha on another note tho some people like having photographic memory’s to look back on and there’s nothing wrong with that imo

I've no idea, they were behind me and I moved across to another gap - I had my kids with me so was focussed on moving them across too so didn't get an opportunity to see them or convey my displeasure as I was focussed on keeping my kids with me and still seeing the band.

I would have made their video very wobbly 🤷🏻‍♀️

Once the guy behind me was so close I actually had a little bit of a rest and leanned backwards into him 😅 (fyi I had a very bulbous small backpack so no unwanted contact)

Hahah!

There was a MN thread about this kind of thing once, a man pressed up against a woman in the queue in the post office she said loudly "I hope you're wearing a condom" Grin

You say this but do people REALLY ever watch back several hours worth of badly filmed, shaky, distant footage of a band or fireworks or whatever? Yes take a short clip of them playing your favourite song or whatever but so many people film everything these days, and I agree it must impede your enjoyment of the actual moment. How can you jump up and down and sing at the top of your voice when you're worried about getting a clear view and not dropping your phone?

Insane that they actually balanced it on your head though OP, some people really believe they are the main characters starring in their own film and everyone else is just props or extras to their lives!

FMSucks · 01/08/2022 12:18

That person's phone would have accidentally (on purpose) met a terrible fate with my foot OP!

I am a huge music fan and love going to concerts/festivals. Smartphones are absolutely killing the experience for me. I'm not tall so not only am I battling to see over other people's heads, I now have to contend with people's arms up constantly recording with their phones. Can people not just enjoy being in the moment anymore? I've just paid an inordinate amount of money for myself and my DS to sit front row at a concert this November to avoid this issue.

I hope you enjoyed the concert even with the twat beside you!

RedTonight · 01/08/2022 12:19

Haha that’s hilarious!!! Annoying, but funny when you look back on it!

Damnautocorrect · 01/08/2022 12:20

What the actual fuck.

it’s funny in a terrible sort of way. What went through his head?!

Lochroy · 01/08/2022 12:23

Ugh. I would have accidentally imaged it was a giant insect and instinctively have swatted it to the ground and stamped on it.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 01/08/2022 12:33

Apparently Bob Dylan’s latest (last?) tour stipulates no mobiles.

SommerTen · 01/08/2022 12:58

Were you at Poole Harbour Festival? Some of my friends were there and saw that band.

Oh please. She's just explained exactly what's wrong with it.

If you don't enjoy the event enough to be totally wrapped up in it when it's live, why would you want to re watch it off a crappy phone recording anyway?

I went to see Queen, and it had been rescheduled for two years. Yet faced with the ACTUAL Brian May not ten feet away, some people still felt the best way to get involved with songs was to point a camera and video it. Why? So you can show your friends a video of EVERYONE ELSE clapping to Radio Gaga?

Bootothegoose · 01/08/2022 13:15

Did you not turn around and ask what the hell he was doing?

How rude! People lose all sense sometimes!

I hope you had a good night regardless!

I'd have enjoyed a huge wobbly sneeze during the best bits...but that's me finding this simultaneously hilarious and an opportunity for mischief.
