Big summer party help!

We're organising a big party (so far 11 people have confirmed). It's kid friendly but there will be as close as an open bar as you can imagine.

Here's the menu:

  • Margaritas
  • Strawberry Daiquiri
  • carnitas (slowed cook pork)
  • birria (slowed cook spicy beef)
  • refried beans
  • nopales (cactus leaves)
  • chorizo and potatoes
  • quesadillas
  • chicharrones (puffy pork scratchings)
  • flan (crème caramel)
  • churros
  • fruit kebabs
  • beer
  • all 4 types of wine

Would you eat/ drink that? We know it's a bit "exotic" but I'm Mexican so it would be a waste not have authentic grub

About 30 have been invited (a few more still to be invited) 12-15 have confirmed (and their +1s)

If you have kids to cater for maybe some simple quasedila

AtleastitsnotMonday · 31/07/2022 20:29

Sorry, quaesidilla are on your original menu, I-mean just keep some simple, either just cheese or cheese and ham.

I don't eat pork and the chorizo and potatoes would make me sad if they're all crispy and deliciously oily. Can you do some without chorizo?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/07/2022 20:31

Sounds bloody brilliant I’m so jealous of those invited !!!

Longt · 31/07/2022 20:35

Agree re no veggie main dish is a bit sad. Could you do a quorn version of the spicy beef and also do some potatoes without chorizo.

motheroftheyear95 · 31/07/2022 20:35

All 4 types of wine? I thought there was only 3? Red wine Rose ?

Onlyrainbows · 31/07/2022 20:39

Red / White/ rose / sparkling . I don't know how the Quorn would work as it's all basically slowed cook with just s few seasonings (believe it or not)

Something more substantial with beans?

Onlyrainbows · 31/07/2022 21:09

Beans are a side.eother refried or in their broth, or cowboy type (which is not vegetarian). I could.mske rice? There's something else called poblanos (peppers) with sweetcorn but they normally have cream (so not vegan).

Nope, not it Mexico! It's in the Wet Country :)

Then why can't you use a meat substitute?

Onlyrainbows · 01/08/2022 06:09

Because authentic Mexican food doesn't tend to be very veggie friendly. I remember at uni the only vegetarian friend I had would only eat quesadillas. The point being that I wouldn't know how to adapt most things, or the ones I can think off are very much cactus leaves based (or courgette). They're fairly complex to main and are deep fried. Or filled tortilla patties

Meat substitutes are absolutely not required OP, plenty there for veggies and people who don't want to eat pork
It sounds fabulous!

Mumdiva99 · 01/08/2022 06:21

Absolutely fine for meat eaters and veggies and kids.

Any soft drinks?

Onlyrainbows · 01/08/2022 06:34

Fruit juice and the usual fizzy drinks. I would make traditional soft drinks bit again doubt the kids would drink them ) hibiscus, tamarind, and rice based horchata). I could make limeade though.

I assumed the fourth type was 'box'! 😂

Onlyrainbows · 01/08/2022 09:06

I mean there's also orange wine!

... and Ginger Wine, and Barley Wine, and screw-top wine (my favorite!)

Earlymenopausesucks · 01/08/2022 10:38

Tres leches cake deserves a spot.
Everything sounds delicious.

Onlyrainbows · 31/07/2022 16:30

For the vegans there's the cactus leaves + potatoes + beans. Vegetarians can also have the quesadillas. I could make sautéed mushrooms. I'm tempted to make ceviche but DH isn't a fan.

The menu sounds awesome!!

Could you also do elote for the veggies?

Onlyrainbows · 01/08/2022 10:50

I don't like tres leches!!
