What the heck is going one with the Disney eyes???

The Disney (and most animated) characters' eyes are so ridiculously huge nowadays. It's not an entirely new thing but guess it started 10-12 years ago? There is a vast difference in eye size if you compare the current with those animations from the 50s, 60s, 70s.

I personally think it's creepy and not entirely helpful for young kids to see this. It makes the grown women in the films look look infantilised and very young.

What do you think or has it never even occurred to you that the eyes are getting larger?

I noticed it on Encanto but haven't seen it on anything else.

Then again I've only seen it because I have a two year old, I've not watched any of the stuff for the last decade or two. Writing that makes me feel quite old.

I think the latest Disney animations have a very similar look in how the characters are drawn from ‘Tangled’ onwards - visually they could all be part of the same film.

Before that, each film had something very distinctive about it. The style of animation - from background to characters - in Sleeping Beauty’ is nothing like ‘The Little Mermaid’ which is nothing like ‘Beauty and the Beast’ which in turn looks nothing like ‘Pocahontas’ - I could go on! All recognisably Disney in their own way, but still so different.

I think it’s a shame that that has been lost.
Now, like you say it’s all big eyes and generic HD detail. Amazing animation for one film - but a bit same old, same old when they use it for everything. I’m guessing their just using the same CGI program for all, the only thing that changes is they’re able to add extra HD detail for each program update.

HD detail and bigger eyes I should say 😄

Recycling and repurposing disney animations is nothing new.
