London Tube Help!

I'm heading into London today to see a show. We usually drive to Stratford then tube in. I need to get to Covent Garden.

I've just seen this when checking my journey on the TFL app. Is this information correct? I rarely go into London so I'm terrified that our plans will be ruined if we can't get the tube! Not a clue how to get around otherwise, I'm not a city person in the slightest!

Get an Uber?

Newnormal99 · 31/07/2022 10:05

Use the city mapper app. Think Piccadilly goes through Covent Garden. So from Stafford probably jubilee and change at green park.

sm40 · 31/07/2022 10:05

Citymapper is your friend. Jubilee line from Stratford. Where is theatre. Either walk from green park or change onto non central line line.

SundayTeatime · 31/07/2022 10:05

Jubilee line from Stratford to Green Park. Then Piccadilly line to Covent Garden.

newroundhere · 31/07/2022 10:05

If the central line is down you can get the jubilee line to Waterloo and then the northern line Northbound to Leicester Square. According to citymapper (download that app, its great) it'll take under 40 minutes

TheFlis12345 · 31/07/2022 10:05

Just get another line? Jubilee to Waterloo then Northern to Leicester Sq is probably easiest?

Earlyagain · 31/07/2022 10:06

Jubilee line from Stratford to Green park (or Waterloo if you fancy a walk across the river) 10-15 min walk from either really to Covent Garden

TimeforaGandT · 31/07/2022 10:06

You can get the DLR from Stratford (it’s running today) and then join up with the tube. Will take you a bit longer.

prisscalledwanda · 31/07/2022 10:06

That's just the central line though isn't it? So you could still travel from Stratford on the tube and use the jubilee line. Could go to bond st then walk or to green park then change for Holborn. There is always another way! I think you will be fine

sm40 · 31/07/2022 10:09

Sorry just saw Covent Garden. Get off at jubilee at Waterloo and have a walk across the bridge to Embankment and then onto Covent Garden. Great views of the river.

PatriciaHolm · 31/07/2022 10:10

Get the jubilee to green park then the Piccadilly.

BerylBird · 31/07/2022 10:13

The Transport for London website suggests that the Central Line is running but with severe delays. So that might still work after all - or as PP says, go on the Jubilee Line and then change onto the Piccadilly.

Or if it doesn't matter where you drive to, head for Cockfosters (Herts) on the Piccadilly Line; big carpark and you can just sit there all the way to Covent Garden.

Get the jubilee line instead? Download a tube map and you'll see other options.

Cluckycluck · 31/07/2022 10:14

Thanks all! I use the TFL planner which doesn't give other options and I just panicked!

I'm not built for city life! Give me bumpy one track country roads to get around on any day of the week!

Some staff on the tube are doing action short of a strike in particular not agreeing to do overtime, which is leading to pockets of outage. That message relates to early morning, the service should get back to normality as the day goes on. But occasionally they will shut an entire station, due to lack of staff. This doesn’t get much publicity like the all out strikes.

SundayTeatime · 31/07/2022 10:21

TfL planner gives lots of options. It suggested Jubilee and Piccadilly to me.

Iseethesilverlining · 31/07/2022 10:22

Or you could get the Elizabeth Line to Liverpool Street and then the 11 bus which goes direct from Liverpool Street to Covent Garden. You get to try the new line and have a bus ride through lovely bits of London!

balalake · 31/07/2022 11:35

Jubilee line is your best option. Elizabeth line not running today.

limitedperiodonly · 31/07/2022 12:24

I'd drive all the way in. Covent Garden is only about five miles more from Stratford. Traffic might be heavier because of this but you'll be in it anyway if you use a bus and the other tube lines will be busier.

Parking will be easy on a Sunday but you will have to pay the Congestion Charge.

Elizabeth Line is closed on Sundays!
