3 year olds at a party; parents usually stay or go?

Help! I am out of my depth on party etiquette!
The 3 year olds are attending a party tomorrow for twins - they’re DDs nursery pals.
it’a at their home.
I only speak to the mother at pick up and DN doesn’t attend their school but they’ve invited him. we live in a little hamlet 5 miles from the school and don’t know anyone really so it’s lovely they’ve included him.

I should expect to stay shouldn’t I?
That is the done/normal thing isn’t it?
Thanks

Stay at that age.

MbatataOwl · 30/07/2022 23:24

Yes, at that age you're expected to stay. No one wants to be cleaning your child up if/when it needs a poo!

GiltEdges · 30/07/2022 23:25

I would have thought so.

Or at least, to look at it another way… there’s not a chance I’d be leaving my 3YO in the care of someone I barely knew, so he wouldn’t be going unless I was staying.

Stay at 3. Generally the kids are about 5 when parents start to drop and run.

Yes, stay at that age. Generally in my experience parents seem to stay until children are about 5 or 6, and then after that age they drop and go.

Definitely stay, also parents have stayed at every 5th birthday I've been to this year so I'm not sure what PP is on about.

Thank you! I think I assumed it was stay but after a glass of wine I was suddenly completely doubting my own judgement!

Definitely stay - drop off parties round here don't seem to start till around 8 years old.

Cherrysherbet · 30/07/2022 23:28

I would definitely stay with a child of that age…..or they wouldn’t be going.

At 3, definitely stay. At my 5yo DD’s party a couple of weeks ago it was my first time saying “parents optional”. 3 parents chose to stay, 3 parents chose to drop off and run. I get the sense that 5 is when the transition begins.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 31/07/2022 04:13

At 3, stay

Hollywolly1 · 01/08/2022 08:15

Stay.
