Has anyone torn their tricep?

My GP says I've torn the muscle quite badly.

I can't describe the pain if I move my arm the wrong way - it's eye-wateringly excruciating. There's a big swollen bulge at my elbow and a pinky/red patch has appeared, which I assume is bruising or bleeding?

If anyone has sustained this before, how long did it take for you to be more mobile? I find it very hard to move the arm, and am unable to sleep in bed I'm so worried about being jolted or bumped into. I can't dress myself, or do anything meaningful around the house. I'm basically sofa-bound for now.

Just looking for an approximation of how long it might take before I am a more useful member of our family!

Have they not suggested surgery? My bil had to have surgery to reattach it.

No...

Initially I called my GP who said to call NHS24. They referred me to the minor injuries in my LA who batted me back to the GP because I can't think of a specific injury I've sustained. The best guess in throwing a ball with my non-dominant hand for our new puppy.

I noticed the pain on Monday but it wasn't dreadful. It's been in and off but I think I've done it some real damage yesterday. That's when I got in touch with medical professionals and my GP agreed to see me last minute yesterday afternoon.

I'm worried he's not really understood the level of pain. I can't do anything.

Hi FuckingHateRats. Can I ask you what treatment you had and how long did it take to rectify? My DH has exactly the same problem. He can't sleep either. Thanks.

If you two can in any way swing it, your DH's best option is to see a physiotherapist privately. If not, see an NHS one but usually appointments are shorter and less frequent which isn't ideal with an acute injury. DH ought to get on top of it now rather than wait for an NHS appt. Physios are more specialist than most doctors in these issues so for something like this they would be my first port of call.

@PussInBin20 I've done that annoying thing and forgotten to tag you in my earlier post!

PussInBin20 · 03/01/2024 22:14

@FuckingHateRats did you recover quickly?

@FuckingHateRats did you recover quickly?

It took about a week I think.
