DD age 11 wants to get ears pierced.

issues - she swims twice a week
and also does sports where she’ll be asked to remove 2-3 times a week in term time!!

summer holidays seem best time?

Yep, summer holidays.

Beginning of summer holidays by someone who uses a needle rather than a gun. It will heal quicker, hurt less and less trauma than a gun.

Does she play netball? They have absolutely no flexibility re earrings unlike eg hockey. If you get them pierced now she’ll be just about ok for winter league although it will still be a bit early to remove them (my dd has removed them at 4 weeks for netball and all healed ok). Don’t be tempted to change them for fashion jewellery for a good 3 months though as taking them out for sport will lengthen the healing. We used to remove them in the car at matches so as to minimum the time they were out for.

Use this stuff; it helps it heal much better than bog-standard saline solution. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004Q8S7WU?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Think we can wait til 2023 summer hols

Start of the summer hols so she has the whole 6 weeks to heal.

FWIW I used to work for Claire's and we'd have queues out the door and a booking system for the first week of the holidays. I'd spent 8 hours a day doing back to back piercing. It's a popular time to do it.

Thanks everyone - deffo looking for a proper piercer not a gun. I still remember the trauma of my own gun piercings

My top tip after years of navigating netball and piercings is to do them as soon as summer league finishes which will be before the end of term that way she should be fine for when winter league starts.

Hockey will let her tape them but netball will insist on them out although depending on your club you may be ok with them taped for training.

Very start of summer holiday and get it done by needle. We went to a tattoo place and it was painless.

We’re in a similar situation. Our issue is swimming - DD has joined a club and will be swimming 3x a week from the beginning of Sept. But couldn’t do it before now as have been on holiday (and swimming daily). I don’t know if they’ll make her remove them for swimming?

ClassSize2022 · 31/07/2022 17:23

you’re not supposed to swim with them on
