Talk to me about your washer/dryers

Please!

Ours is on its last legs and will need replacing urgently. DH is working away for the next few weeks and I am pregnant, so need to have a removal/installation option. I have had a very bad experience with Curry’s for installation, so would prefer to avoid them.

Top purchases welcome but I’m also after the insider knowledge that websites don’t tell you - does it play an irritating tune that can only be silenced when you go and turn it off? Is the child lock so complicated that I’ll mess it up? Is the short cycle actually too short to be useful/too long to be considered short?

We don’t want to spend £££, but want to invest in something that lasts (DH) and doesn’t have ideas about its status (me). Could potentially be persuaded to consider separate washers and dryers, but we hardly use the dryer and it seems like a waste of space.

I knew this was boring, but I hadn’t realised quite how dull!

hopeful bump

We have a Samsung eco bubble addwash and I love it. I always order appliances from AO - they do next day delivery (always handy when one packs up and you need it replacing) and have installation/take away options

Every LG I've seen plays an irritating tune until you go and manually turn it off. I would never buy one now!

rainbowsilk · 30/07/2022 13:17

This is the one we have - ao.com/product/wd90t984dsh-samsung-series-9-quickdrive-auto-dose-washer-dryer-white-76940-2.aspx

Also had the slightly cheaper model previously which is now at my parents house. 6 years and never an issue with it.

I love my LG. I does play a tune when it's done but it doesn't need you to turn it off, it just stops.

QueenOfWeeds · 30/07/2022 13:25

Hmm, a brief tune which then stops might not be so bad. Our current Bosch just beeps intermittently.

@rainbowsilk I was looking at that range. Do you have one of the newer ones which auto dispenses detergent and softener? I read a few reviews saying you couldn’t just put the detergent straight into the drum and it really put me off. We have a few different types of detergent that we use for different things.

My LG does the same thing - I quite enjoy singing along 🤪 It's the Inverter Direct Drive 10kg. Best machine I've ever had, and it is so quiet!

Beamur · 31/07/2022 12:32

I have a Haier washer/dryer. It's ok. Better dryer than the previous LG or Indesit ones. Annoyingly shallow drum though..

My Samsung eco bubble has just broken 😞 paid about £600 for it 5 years ago

Bought a Hisense to replace it as the cost to repair would be £300 and paid £409 for the new one - not arrived yet but we have a Hisense TV and dishwasher and they're great so have bitten the bullet and risked it!!

EdHelpPls · 31/07/2022 12:36

My machine has only lasted about 1 years use and is broken (owned over 2 years, so not in warranty, but had moved out due to home Reno) so my advice is to look for one with good warranty! And check local shops which might offer a better deal, or at least might haggle.
Samsung ones have an extended warranty offer (5 years rather than 2) on some models at the minute. My mum has a Samsung ecobubble and the ending tune is long and annoying. My mum loves it as she's a bit hard of hearing so it's handy to her but I can't stand it. I'm sure it could be turned off though. Some Samsung are smart and can notify you when wash is done.

Thanks all!

I cannot get my head around smart washing machines. I love my robot vacuum, and I’m all for a good gadget, but why does my washing machine need wifi?!

All being well we are due to have a baby next year, and hopefully sell up and move to somewhere bigger, so toying with a cheaper one now which we can offer to include with the sale, or a bigger, shinier one that we would take with us. Currently leaning towards the former, I think.

AO.com will do removal of old machine, installation of new and removal of all packaging for an extra fee but worth it in my view. We replaced our washer with a washer dryer last year and installation happened 2 days before i went into labour 😅. Our machine is a hotpoint and I actually wouldn't recommend it as the shortest wash+dry cycle is about 4hrs but having a dryer was an absolute godsend with DD (refluxy so a LOT of changes) so very pleased we got it before she came along.
