I've got a three day break coming up. We are staying at Gibside and I wondered if you clever lot had some recommendations for unmissable things to do in the area. I like art galleries and good food so give you some idea of my tastes. Hope you can help.

Just adults? The Laing gallery is right in the centre of Newcastle and there is the smaller Shipley gallery in Gateshead and, of course, the Baltic (best things about that for me are the staircase and the kittiwakes!)

Adults? Children- ages?

For art galleries, there’s also the Side photography gallery near the quayside, the Hatton at Newcastle University campus, and the Biscuit Factory near(ish) Ouseburn. And if you do venture to Ouseburn, there’s Northern Print too.

Foodwise, there’s so much to choose from! I like visiting Grainger Market for some street food on a lunchtime, fun and varied.

Just adults. DS late teens and no longer wants to holiday with mum and dad sadly.
