What do you think of your Philips Lumea?

Does it work? Is it a faff to do? How long does the device last before you need to buy another? Would you recommend it?

Love it. Not a faff. Had mine two years and it’s still working, not that I need to use it much any more. Maybe 2/3 times a year. Get one.

For real, 2-3 times per year? What model do you have and where do you use it?

Just the basic cheapest model. I use it on my legs but keep meaning to start bikini line as well. I’ve had it two years I think? When I first got it I think it has to be done every two weeks or something? Then once a month. Then whenever you feel it needs doing. Last summer I used it a few times but this year I think I’ve only done my legs twice although they could do with topping up tbh.

My knees are resistant to it for some reason so they have a few hairs on them but the rest of my legs (and feet and toes) are virtually hair free. I run a razor over them about once a month just to keep them perfect.

There are loads of threads about Lumea on here, a quick search will bring them up.

It's not a faff and works relatively quickly but you need to be persistent and patient. I'm quite hairy and saw dramatic results after 4 or 5 sessions.

RozaPoza · 30/07/2022 10:32

What I love is that they got result of the strawberry leg/ingrown hair and I hardly ever exfoliate. My skin looks so much smoother and better whereas before I used to never feel fully smooth after a shave and have those pesky dots especialy around the knees but with lumea that is gone.

Glittertwins · 30/07/2022 10:37

Had mine for 4-5 years and it no longer works as it keeps shutting off.

FuckingHateRats · 30/07/2022 10:39

Following with interest - I had IPL on my bikini area before lockdown and the results were brilliant. I have a little regrowth and should have had a top up after a year but lockdown put a stop to that. Am now considering just buying the LUMEA and doing it myself, with the added benefit that I can do my legs and underarms.

JohnNutLips · 30/07/2022 10:53

I got mine a few months ago (vouchers were a present from work - not something I would have bought otherwise). Overall I’m pleased with the results - my legs/feet/toes are mostly hair free and in maintenance mode (once a month). My underarms and tache are a bit more resistant it seems - I’m still doing the fortnightly treatments but would say my underarm hair is starting to grow back less and definitely look smoother and lighter. It takes me about an hour to do all over- stopping for a while to let the unit cool down in between.

DelurkingAJ · 30/07/2022 10:54

I feel pretty meh about mine and have pale skin and dark brown hair so should be perfect for it. It’s certainly reduced growth on my legs but appears to have had zero impact on bikini line or underarms.

Snozzlemaid · 30/07/2022 10:57

Didn't work for me really. A few patches on my leg but generally not great.
I'm pale skinned with brown hair so should work but don't know why it wasn't effective for me.

RockAndRollerskate · 30/07/2022 11:00

I bought a braun IPL and I’d honestly say it changed my life.

I used it weekly for about 3-4 months and now top up once a quarter or so

catfunk · 30/07/2022 11:02

Mines brilliant I wish I'd had one years ago!
I used to have to shave my legs daily in summer and don't even get me started on bikini line.
One of my best ever purchases.

shoutinginasoundproofedroom · 20/09/2022 06:32

The hair on my face is pale - will it work there?

Bonsaitoodry · 02/04/2023 23:10

Absolutely love it. Got one last year on the try and buy scheme and I wish I'd got it years ago. Took some patience on legs but thighs now fuzz free (had soft but dark hair and waxing always gave me ingrown and I hated the grow back), and thick dark hair on lower legs barely grows and is thin and pale where it does. Also worked wonders on armpits. Not tried bikini line yet. Middling results on face (chin). But I would 100% recommend it. I was shaving legs daily in the summer before this.

aLittleWhiteHorse · 03/04/2023 23:05

I had my legs professionally layered and bought the Phillips Lumea for maintenance purposes. It worked for my calves but not my thighs and didn’t work well for new areas. After 2 years it stopped completely and when I researched this, it turns out that it commonly just breaks. For me it was an expensive mistake, but a family member has one which she feels hs worked well for her.

aLittleWhiteHorse · 03/04/2023 23:05

LaSered * I’ll not have my legs layered lol

Makesense12 · 03/04/2023 23:13

Op remember if you have other issues like pcos it may not work

Love mine. It has worked on all areas of my body. Chin hairs took longer than everywhere else. I have some stubborn hairs on my lower legs, but basically it’s bloody fantastic.
