Young children and a velvet sofa

I posted on here a few weeks ago to ask about quality sofa brands and someone recommended Tetrad. We have fallen in love with a Tetrad sofa but the colours we love most are all in velvet.

The velvet has a very high rub count but still, the sofa will be in a family living space, I have a 5 and 2 year old and jam, milk, sauce etc on sofas is a not uncommon experience.

Please share your velvet sofa experiences with me! Should I take the risk??

We don't have a velvet sofa but we have one velvet cushion and a three year old. It is not a good combination I'm afraid.

Noooooooooo !! I’m afraid a leather sofa, however naff, is your friend. Ours is 18 years old, and still going strong.

velvet sofas look nice, but you can’t let anyone sit - let alone eat - on it!

Erm I’m going to say no. We had velvet cushions, they marked so easily. If even the actual stain comes out you’re left with a water mark type mark.

Leather darkish sofa preferably from the sale is your answer.

We have a velvet sofa and no children. The cushions needs swapping all the time and it needs vacuuming all the time too. I love it, but it’s a pain to keep looking good.

Not sure how jam and milk would get on a sofa? Do you not have a table?

Honaloulou · 29/07/2022 15:14

We have a Loaf Clever Velvet sofa, which is supposed to be very robust. It’s about 4 years old, and we also have a 2 year old.

It looks fine, but the toddler only eats at the table!

😂This is very amusing, classic mumsnet at its finest.

Hello , i have a 3 year old , 4 year old , 11 year old and a husband😉

I have a crushed velvet silver corner sofa (I'm obviously a chav too 😁)
I have had it 2 years.
I have stripped it all and washed it 3/4 times as it does get a little icky , If i could go back i would probably have leather! But in all honesty its very cosy in the winter and it's manageable and in my opinion looks lovely 🤷🏼‍♀️
