Would the US defend Taiwan

Reading a lot about this lately, if Taiwan declares independence China has stated they will intervene peacefully or forcefully.

Joe Biden stated the us will defend Taiwan but what would this look like? Man power or weapons/artillery.

would I be naive to think China would not intervene militarily due to repercussions ie sanctions.

The US merely uses TW as an exercise for its own interest, just as they did/are doing in many other countries. Eg. They started the war in Iraq due to "weapons of mass destruction" but never found them. (Iraq has the 5th largest oil reserves - the real reason)

*excuse not exercise

Iraq has the world's 5th largest reserves, very true, but how did the invasion benefit the USA? Iraq was more than happy to sell its oil, it just wasn't permitted to. Instead, the USA lost billions of dollars and thousands of lives.

China has rather ominously saud that Taiwan will be reunited with the mainland by the 100th anniversary of the revolution, which is 2049. So they have set a deadline. Taiwan is a modern, well developed democracy and should be allowed to choose its own path.
