Honestly, I'm not stupid, I generally can grasp current affairs!
I understand that energy prices are to do with supply and demand and that oil and gas are traded as commodities, that the fall and uncertainty in supply because of the crisis in Russia has lead to a price spike.
However, presumably, the cost of getting it out of the ground in the places where we can still reliably get it from hasn't changed much, so "someone" is making huge profits as a result?
Where is that money going and why can't it be used to help businesses and households worldwide? I understand it's private money and that it would require government intervention, but why not?
