Festivals

I'm lying in bed thinking this time tomorrow night I'll be in a tent wondering why I do this to myself. And started my period a week early as well! I'm kind of looking forward to it though. But not been to a festival in 12 years and DD 9 is now coming due to the family member not being able to look after her. We have quite a big tent and proper camp beds. Please tell me it will be fun Grin

Sorry after I wrote that I then had no signal for days! Well the worst thing was my DD got her bag taken. We thought she had lost it but someone attempted to use her go Henry card for 3 transactions of £80, £60 and £14 at the bars which is pretty low. That aside we did have an amazing time. My complaint is there was no alcohol free beer anywhere, given it's a big thing I didn't understand why not. DH bought me some but it was in bottles so we couldn't bring it in.
Family camping we did camp in even though we hadn't booked it. My sis in law ended up there and said to make our way. Given we had a child I thought this was ok but I did think it was crap for people who had booked and couldn't get in. I only heard loud music the one night. Heard a baby crying a lot the other nights which was absolutely fine just I found it very quiet.

The urinals were in a terrible place. Didn't bother with a shower so not sure about that.

Your points are interesting @SlipperyLizard. They seemed to have stepped up the bag checking on the last day but DH still got in with cans of beer

I saw something on FB that security had started checking bags on Sunday, it was quite astonishing that they didn’t bother before that.

that’s horrible for your DD, what sort of shitbag steals then tries to use a go Henry card?

I think it would have been useful to have better guidance to where was empty in family camping - there was a field that was relatively civilised/spread out (not where we were unfortunately) yet we came back on Friday to find people had squeezed even more tents into the bit we were in. I expect crying babies in the family field, they don’t usually last as long as the annoying music did!

I didn’t bother with a shower once I saw how few there were!

I think I’m too old/miserable for festivals - would love to hire a camper for a bit more luxury but that’s ££££ in itself

I'm just on my way home from my 19th Cambridge Folk Festival. DC are 15 and 10 respectively and have grown up going to festivals. We're all grubby, exhausted and happy.

Rubbish re your dd's bag but I hope you enjoyed it otherwise.

hellswelshy · 01/08/2022 14:39

Sorry to hear of the bag theft op, hope you managed to have an otherwise stress free time! We are just back from Womad, which has been generally fab. Down points: replaced alot of the portaloos with less compost toilets & didn't seem any nicer... it felt like someone was literally sat next to me, walls so thin 😐So more toilets and maybe few more sink/water points needed! Security seemed non existent but then I didn't see any problems anywhere. Food was slightly more expensive, that was expected. Music was sublime, The Flaming Lips were so good on Saturday night!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/08/2022 21:43

Thanks guys. Yes they're should've been better tracking of who was I. Family camping. Glad all you others enjoyed your festivals. Love the flaming lips! Did you see stereophonics @SlipperyLizard? I was a bit disappointed tbh

Camp Bestival was wonderful this year. It was such a good atmosphere and the Desert Island Disco theme worked so well with so many people in brilliant costumes. Bands were great although Sister Sledge's set was cut short as the tech set up was too slow.
Downside - I got a little bit sunburned- need to be really careful if out all day. And we forgot to take battery packs to charge the phones. We also pitched our tent on a slope so kept rolling down a bit at night. Lessons learned for next time!

SlipperyLizard · 02/08/2022 13:47

@teaandtoastwithmarmite i enjoyed the Stereophonics but I’m only a casual fan of theirs, so just enjoyed hearing the songs played well. I was disappointed by the Manics, who I love but have never seen live because I was worried they would disappoint (and I was right!).

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/08/2022 21:33

Glad you enjoyed camp bestival @sorcerersapprentice it looks good for kids and adults.

@SlipperyLizard that's interesting. I'd heard the manics did well. But maybe it's that thing when you want to see a band for such a long time. I wanted to see phonics for ages and my cousin in laws tribute band did better lol. No seriously they were good just boring

@SlipperyLizard sorry you were disappointed. I enjoyed a lot of newly discovered bands
