Kids uniform sizes in inches?

Can anyone advise what size to buy for a 4.5yo school jumper? The uniform supplier sells them in 24, 26, 28 inches which means absolutely nothing to me. My child’s chest measures 23 inches, the H&M age 5 sweatshirt he’s currently wearing measures 28 inches across. But it’s a sweatshirt and is supposed to be a loose fit, I don’t know about knitted school jumpers?

I would go for 26, might be slightly baggy but he will grow into it. At that age all school uniform is either too baggy or too small except for two weeks of the year which will either fall over Christmas or Easter.

You could ring the supplier and ask for advice.

I rang the supplier and got directed to a call centre where they know bugger all. Couldn’t tell me the length of the jumpers or how chest size is supposed to relate to the size of jumper. They suggested I should drive to the shop 25 miles away and ask an assistant. Of course I can’t just ring the shop, you can only talk to the call centre 🙄

I agree, go for the 26 if the one he's wearing is a 28 and baggy fit. It's practically the rules that your first school uniform has to be excessively large for you to grow into it!
