Anybody spray painted brass handles?

Morning all. I am currently upcycling some awful doors I have in my house. I tried to replace them but they are a really weird size.

anyway, I have sanded them back, 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of white gloss and they look so much better! Handle wise, they have big brass knobs upstairs and brass handles downstairs.

a quick Google tells me I can spray paint these (I want matt black). Has anybody done this? Is it a terrible idea?

I’ve spray painted a brass fire surround to save replacing it. Took two coats but looked fine. Handles look good!

I don't know about spray paints specifically but I hand painted some brass a few years back and it needed a specific primer for non-ferrous metals first. As long as you do that stage correctly should be fine I expect.
