Elvis impersonators - has anyone seen any good ones?

The singing ones, not the marrying you in Vegas type.
I keep being tempted to go to see one, partly out of curiosity, and partly to hear the music live. But I feel like it might just make me feel a bit sad.
Also, where to start? There are loads of them and there seems to be no agreement on who is the best. If I saw a rubbish one I think that would definitely make me feel sad, probably quite cross.

There is one in the Blackpool area. I know the kybd player but not the name of Elvis

Scout2016 · 27/07/2022 08:43

That's a very niche job! Is Blackpool Elvis any good?

Damian Mullin, who performs in Australia, is outstanding. I've seen him twice, and I'm not even an Elvis fan. Don't know if he does overseas. Top man, very good voice, sly and amusing comments about people in the audience from Frankston, Tasmania, WA, etc. but genial, not cutting.

I've seen a really good Scottish guy who performs under the stage name Johnny Lee Memphis - he's very good indeed.

He tours quite a lot in the UK and Ireland and is on Facebook if you want to check him out.

I've also seen Johnny Lee Memphis. He performed for my friends very lavish birthday celebration.

I'm in Sidari in Corfu at the minute. Had a brief wander down the strip last night. Elvis impersonator in one of the clubs as we walked past. Bloody awful voice - both singing and speaking. Was prattling on about how he'd done 25 years in Tenerfie. Last thing I heard him say was "anyone got any requests, let me know. And yes to the bloke at the front, I know you want me to do your wife. Later pal, later" Bleurgh!

(DD was browsing tat quality souvenirs at the shop next door hence I was listening for a while)

There used to be a fab Elvis in Protaras, Cyprus. Not sure if he's still about.

Saw a fabulous one at the Elvis museum in Las Vegas.
We were in the gift shop later and he came in.
He heard our accents and came over for a chat, turned out he was from Dudley 😆

@RainbowZebraWarrior

I've also seen Johnny Lee Memphis. He performed for my friends very lavish birthday celebration.

Wow! That would have been a brilliant party!

Scout2016 · 27/07/2022 10:40

Thanks, this is making me feel inclined to go. Although I haven't even gone uo see the film because I don't like the idea somehow, despite liking Baz Luhrmann and Elvis.
I think I have heard of Jonny Lee Memphis, from a TV show years ago to find the best impersonator I think. @AffIt and @RainbowZebraWarrior was he family friendly? Could a younger child go? My DD is an Elvis fan.
I am astounded at that birthday party!

Tenerife perv Elvis should be struck off, if there's an Elvis register. I wonder if there is, like with clowns.

One of my neighbours is an Elvis impersonator. I don't know if he's any good though - our houses aren't close enough for me to hear him singing in the shower and I don't know what name he sings under .

CuriousMama · 27/07/2022 16:40

Just googled this lad from the UK 😮
He's touring.

Ooooh, looks like Emilio won the European Elvis Championships this year. Mainly early Elvis too which maybe reduces risk of farce or parody.
Also been looking at Lee, he has (slightly sppoky) FB photo of him with other Elvises at a German convention. I've gone down a rabbit hole!

@Scout2016

was he family friendly?

I should imagine so - when I saw him, it was a very mixed crowd, age-wise, and he definitely kept everything very 'proper'!

I would think he, like most performers' will 'read' the crowd and respond appropriately: if you're going to see one of his shows, it might be worth posting on his FB for clarification that is suitable for U18s.

The fascinating thing is that he doesn't 'break' character - even when taking pics with fans after shows - a consummate professional! 😀

I’ve seen many over the years...some terrible, some brilliant. Shawn Klush was on an itv special “Worlds Greatest Elvis” and he was simply amazing. It’s on YouTube.
I’d say this tour would be what you’re looking for

There was this Chinese restaurant in London about 15 years ago with one. He was amazing. Best night out. Hope it's still there.

I used to live next door to an Elvis impersonator ! He was rubbish though. Called 'Tony Elvis'.
