What do you keep your ground coffee in?

I've developed a great love for coffee and recently bought my own grinder. But I don't know how to store the grounds - I can't find a kilner jar in the right size and I want something airtight. If I'm forking out for good coffee I want to keep it properly. Just wondering if any coffee aficionados could share tips! Thanks!

Grind smaller amounts to fit the kilner jar? Old jam jar.

We once bought a tin of coffee from Waitrose and use that.

I’d agree with grinding smaller amounts - it goes stale really quickly once it’s ground so there’s not much point grinding in bulk.

I use old coffee jars to store my beans in.

Also keeping ground coffee in the fridge helps keep it fresh for longer.

You want something opaque and airtight so a glass jar is not suitable. We use a small coffee tin.

I keep the beans in an airtight Kilner jar and grind what I need each morning. Ground coffee doesn’t keep well, even airtight.

I just grind coffee as I need it, so no grounds to store. Ground coffee will degrade far quicker than whole beans.

OhIKnow · 26/07/2022 08:52

Only grind what you need when you need it. I store my beans in their bag in a sealed glass storage container in a dark cupboard, light makes them deteriorate. I'm very protective of my beans 😄

Yes to grinding as needed but if you want to grind in the morning for a few cups that day/the following day just put it in an airtight Tupperware and stick it in the fridge. I used to grind in the morning to last maybe three days at most but after that it's not nice at all.

Grind your coffee as you need it, then you don't have to store ground coffee anywhere.

In a tin in the fridge.

An old Illy coffee tin.

The whole point of grinding your own coffee is to use fresh. If you store it you might well buy ready-grounded coffee.
I keep my coffee in a tin in the fridge.

Thanks all, I've been doing it all wrong as I've been grinding enough for 2-3 days. Thanks for the advice
