Stick Harpic round your loo bowl?

I ask because no matter how often I put Harpic in the loo, the bottom of it under the water goes a yellowy brown almost overnight.

Also.. #clickbait thread title.. 😉

I never have that issue with my loo and clean my loo once a week (unless guests are arriving!). Do you think it might be the type of water you have in your area? Hard water continues more iron and can be more orange.

Ravenclawdropout · 26/07/2022 08:34

CONTAINS more iron

I didn't think of that.

Is there a way to check your water for hardness?

Nvm I checked online with my postcode and apparently I've hard water here. I'll have to get some of the on bowl Harpics.

Ring your local water company. I rang to get the numbers from them so I could set our dishwasher up properly (extremely hard water in the north east)

Sainsburys limescale remover does the trick on my loo

LindaEllen · 26/07/2022 09:31

I do it every time my stepson leaves massive skid marks in the loo (despite being a fucking adult and being told where the bleach is multiple times).

So every day.

Solosunrise · 26/07/2022 09:42

At the risk of sounding all MN, do you rely on the harpic to do the job or do you clean it with a brush or a cloth under the water line?
We had limescale under the water line, and i tackled it with elbow grease and a pumice stone (yes I wore rubber gloves!)
I keep it clean just by giving it a swish round daily now, with toilet gel under the rim.

Solosunrise · 26/07/2022 09:44

Toilet gel under the rim once a week or so I meant

flashpaper · 26/07/2022 09:57

Full clean once a week but I use a steradent tablet in the toilet daily. It gets the stains off and kills bacteria. I think they're £1 for 30 tablets.

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 26/07/2022 10:10

I like the toilet duck fresh discs- keep it fresh in between cleans.

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2022 10:13

You can't rely on the loo cleaner you need to actually clean it too, whether it's with a brush or whatever.

This might sound all kinds of wrong... But..

I use a dish washing brush...
Once is done its duty as a dish washing brush, I relegate it to crapper scrubber.
I like the angle on the head and being able to get in properly.

Are you actually cleaning it though?
You need to leave the toilet cleaner in for a couple of hours and then give it a really good scrub with the toilet brush.

SalviaOfficinalis · 26/07/2022 10:18

Sorry cross posted

bbqhulahoop · 26/07/2022 10:26

SuperMarket cola is great at getting limescale off in hard water areas! You need to dump about 2l down the loo and leave it overnight though!
