Awful dreams you’ve had

I just woke up from a dream in which my son’s face was half gone. Please share with me your not so nice dreams that didn’t come true to talk me down. I can’t get back sleep.

Oh love that’s horrible! Get up and make a cuppa, go out in the early morning sun and listen to birds or traffic, remind yourself you’re in the real world.

I have lots of very graphic dreams, sometimes they are very violent, sometimes just chilling or disorienting, and when I wake up they feel so real I can be shaken for hours, especially the ones where my kids are injured. Then I completely forget them!

A recent dream has stuck with me though. Simple plot: my young toddler ran off while we were shopping and got lost. I chased after him and at first it was a game but then I kept losing sight of him. I eventually lost him completely in a building when he went through a door in a corridor full of doors. I desperately searched for him, of course it was futile and panic was rising very fast. I finally found him when I spotted a crowd through the window; I left the building and found my toddler had drowned in a fountain just outside. The horror of it, honestly, has stuck with me for weeks and weeks. To make matters worse, my dad kept turning up in the dream being his usual idiotic self and down-playing everything and distracting me. Since my dad died over 10 years ago a guest appearance in a dream is all I get these days!

Hopefully our subconscious minds will give us some respite for a while, just a plain old sexy dream would be nice for a change.

Thank you. I am making a cuppa now. Your dream sounds awful too. X I’d love to analyse my dreams!

I dreamed I was an intern at no. 10 and was getting a bollocking for daring to talk to Larry from BJ. I woke up absolutely furious and could NOT get back to sleep. It felt like when you were at school and got bollocked for something that wasn't your fault from a prick of a teacher.

I had a dream that I died once. It was so real. I was stabbed, and I could feel the warmth of the blood pooling around me, and smell it. Then very quickly as I lost more and more blood, my vision started to fade to black. And then I died! The blackness/nothingness remained for a few seconds, then I woke up. It was awful but also kind of fascinating, as I kind of imagine that's what it would be like when you die.

I've had lots of vivid, awful dreams, especially during pregnancy. But thankfully I've forgotten most of them.

Not sure if this needs a trigger warning but it traumatised me. During the first lockdown I dreamt we were on holiday somewhere in the UK and it was great, lovely and warm, the kids were playing on these huge flat rocks in a shallow wide calm river. Dd2 suddenly got down on her knees, bent double and literally screamed "it's my tummy!" I tried to go to her but she wasn't there. It all went black. Then we were back at the cottage we were staying at, DH kept his back to me looking out the window and didn't answer me when I asked was she ok, and Dd1 went over to open the front door and the funeral director of our hometown was there and said he was so sorry.

I can still hear her screaming that in my mind and freak out 2 years on any time she even mentions a tummy ache.

I had a very vivid dream last night that a very obese man fell down on ice started spinning around and the middle part of his body was kind of wearing away as he was spinning on the ground and he said oh thank god I’m getting lighter now. It was very bloody and graphic and then it ended up that he was just his chest arms and head as one part and his legs as another part. Fish were coming out of his body as he had eaten them for dinner and then seagulls came down to eat the fish and peck away at what was left of the man as he was still alive. It was horrible!

Oh god! My dream killed the thread 🙈

I had a horrible dream last night, I woke up and remembered in vivid detail, it really freaked me out. But then I eventually fell back asleep and now I can't really remember the details, just the feeling. It was so real. It was something to do with people coming into our house, people we hadn't invited and they felt threatening, we couldn't make them go away.
So it wasn't gruesome or terrifying, just really unsettling.

i once gave Donald trump a bj-that still keeps me awake

another one was I was running down my street and Donald trump and Rodney trotter where chasing me
i got level with my house and woke up

i was pregnant in rl and dreamt I gave birth to a black cat
i woke up in tears over that one and grabbed my bump to make sure I hadn’t given birth in the night

i need to lay off whatever sets them off

It must be the week for nightmares! I woke yesterday morning mid dream about being bashed over the head by a man who was trying to have sex with me in my bed. Effing horrific. I often have really amusing ones or repetitive banal ones so that really shocked me and made me empathise more than ever with people who are the victims of violence in real life.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 26/07/2022 23:22

I can go literally years without remembering a single dream but a couple of years ago I had a truly horrible one where I was in this rundown house where there must have been some kind of party because there were loads and loads of people but some kind of monster had slaughtered everyone and I was buried under hundreds of dead bodies trying to crawl and climb up through them.

That one had me jumping awake gasping for breath, it was awful.

BeeEllEyePeePeeEye · 26/07/2022 23:29

I have a lot of vivid dreams, one that repeated and still haunts me from childhood was falling down a drain. That fallen gut feeling, on repeat.

I had one when I had moved from home where my mother had become ill with d&v, the dream was me trying to open her bedroom door to check on her after an awful night of illness and not being able to. Pushing and pushing the door, then forcing it, then discovering my mother's dead body had been weighting the door.

There are many others that plague me but they have more real life situations which I have suffered, don't talk about and apparently I can't escape.

Aintgointogoa · 27/07/2022 01:04

Oh my god I thought some of mine were bad ! Goodness knows what our subconscious can cook up…I did have very scary ones when I was pregnant too (along time ago) Baby being ripped out of tummy etc. But the other night I dreamt about a spider, like a ginormous daddy long legs (and with waaaay too many legs for a spider) sort of blowing in the breeze upside down on my old washing line. Someone (not me) poked it gently and it went completely rigid, all legs up in the air with little coloured balls flashing at the top of them. Hmmm. I am not really scared of spiders (not talking Hunstmans) but I casually checked dream interpretation - along the lines of manifesting your greatest inner fear.
Next day tested positive for covid. (I’ve swerved 2.5 years) And luckily I am doing fine. I prefer the sexy ones that crop up from time to time tho !

CthulhuInDisguise · 27/07/2022 02:16

I dreamed that I had to pick between saving the life of my boyfriend, or bringing my late DH back to life. I woke up feeling so cold, I rarely dream about DH other than in a positive way and this was violent and horrid. I still don't know if it's a sign that he disapproves of me dating.

anonymoooose · 27/07/2022 03:36

Couple nights ago I had a dream that my 2 year old daughter was playing in a fish tank. We were visiting a friend and we were talking catching up. I would look at my daughter to check her and she was playing fine. Then I looked back and she was the bottom of the tank lifeless.
I pulled her out but she was much smaller like a little dolly in the palm of my hand and I tried to resuscitate her. I was crying in the dream. Really sobbing. Then I woke up and felt very sick. My heart was racing

Dreams are so weird. I'd never let her play in a fish tank so why was my dream like that 😢😢😢

anonymoooose · 27/07/2022 03:38

@WhatsInAMolatovMocktail I had a similar drowning child dream a few days ago and I can't shake it either 😢
