applying for a passport

Hi all
I need to apply for a passport for my son. The application asks for the fathers details, which I have. However, he didn't sign the birth certificate so he isn't named on it. Can I still provide his details to the passport office? would it harm the application to provide the details when they will see that he is not listed on the birth certificate? When I opted not to name him on the application, they asked for my full birth certificate, which I don't have at the mo.
thanks

Are you British, OP?

I think I would just fill in his details and, if you are British, just send your birth certificate along with your child's birth certificate and that should be fine.

If you are trying to claim British nationality through his father who is not named on the birth certificate, then it's going to be much more complicated.

You can apply for your birth certificate online, if you need a copy. That's what I did as I can't find mine, but it takes 3 weeks unless you pay extra.

Yes I am British and I have a passport so not sure why they are asking for my full birth certificate

Thanks, I wanted to avoid delays if possible as I want to travel in 11 weeks time....but looks unlikely with all the problems at the mo

I think some people are entitled to a British passport, such as through a grandparent, but they aren't entitled to pass British nationality to their children, or something like that. It's a hassle.

You can pay extra to get your birth certificate faster. I'm not in a rush for ours, so I didn't bother. My husband isn't British, so I just added his details but didn't need to send his birth certificate.
