Do pedestrians still need to wait for green man at crossroads crossing?

With the new highway code rules, do pedestrians still need to wait for the green man at lights controlled cross roads? Or can they just walk our and drivers have to give way?

So, it's a 4 way junction. Road going north/south crossed with road going east/west.
The north/south roads get a green light and can go straight or then down the east/west roads. Then their light goes red and the east/west roads get a green light to go whichever way they are going. Their light goes red, traffic stands still and the green man comes up for pedestrians.

At these crossing, do pedestrians still have to wait for the green man?

If a car is coming up the north/south road, through the green light into the cross junction and then turning left, do they need to stop if a pedestrian is waiting on the corner? Or does the pedestrian need to wait for the green man?

According to the highway code, you shouldn't cross until the traffic has stopped:

This what I thought but just had a man shouting at me. The car in front of me had just rounded the corner, and I was starting to round the corner when the pedestrian on the corner just stepped out. He didn't look round, he just stepped almost right in front of my bonnet. I stopped obviously but also hit my horn because I thought he just had no idea what he was doing. And he started going on about the highway code and he has right of way if I'm turning into the road, regardless of it being traffic light controlled.

Some people just enjoy being difficult and correct on technicalities, gives them a sense of superiority.

Won't result in any fewer broken bones or days in hospital when they step out into the road within the stopping distance of whatever is appeoaching.

the answer is you are meant to give way if it is a none controlled crossing ie stop if you are turning into the road he is standing on the corner of. I do think it is unclear and for me it is mostly men who are abusing this and just stepping out whether or not they have been seen or traffic stopped. I can only advise having a dashcam if you are a driver constantly on roads with pedestrians

a lighted crossing you should still obey the lights including pedestrians

Yes, you still wait for the green man.

Thinking about the roads/junctions around me you would be pretty insane not to!
