Where is affordable to go for some sun in October half term?

I literally haven't booked a holiday through a travel agent in years.

We've had a shit year and want to have a relaxing holiday for 2 adults and 1 child, possibly with some sun just lying by the pool, but I literally don't know where to go or how much it would cost.

Where is cheap to go, easy to get to and who is good to book with in terms of reputable travel agents?

What would you recommend? Ideally, as cheap as possible!

Andalusia will still be warm then.
or Lisbon area

BarbaraofSeville · 25/07/2022 15:56

Have a look at the Canaries with Jet2holidays.

You might even get a free child place, especially if they're small enough to be OK sleeping on a sofa bed.

Alicante, Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Kalymnos Lanzarote are still warm in October Personally I always buy flights then use Air BnB or booking.com for accommodation. Google the accommodation you choose to see if you can book direct and save a bit of money.

Lanzarote

Horological · 25/07/2022 16:00

The Canary Islands. All of them will be warm, there are lots of options for different resorts and most of them at the cheap end. Plus they are much nicer than you might think, especially Lanzarote.

Louise0701 · 25/07/2022 16:01

Canaries. Greek islands shut down in October and Spain won’t be hot.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 25/07/2022 16:05

Greek islands will be far too cold for swimming pools and at around 19c not particularly sun bathing weather.

PeggyGa · 25/07/2022 16:09

Morrocco

maddy68 · 25/07/2022 16:14

Southern Spain , canaries will be hot enough for pool life

SortingOffice · 25/07/2022 16:15

Lanzarote as others have said. Jet2 to Playa Blanca. Lots of reasonable packages, especially if you avoid the half term holiday. Make sure you get a heated pool ( not just acclimatised).
I wouldn't go anywhere North of Canaries if I wanted a pool and flop holiday. Definitley not Portugal, You might be lucky but it's a precious holiday and I wouldn't gamble.

Dartmoorcheffy · 25/07/2022 16:16

Lanzarote is fabulous in October and really cheap too. Always hot and it's very child friendly too.

Elsiebear90 · 25/07/2022 16:16

We went to Cyprus last year mid October and it was really warm, very affordable too.

thebellagio · 25/07/2022 16:25

Thanks. I’ll look for the canaries then. We need to go October half term as my child is 6

Cyprus was pretty grim the second half of half term last year if that helps. I was fine in a jumper and leggings- the locals were wrapped up like I would be in a snow day though and it was mostly all shut down.
Not sure if that's in any way helpful!?

rookiemere · 25/07/2022 16:32

Canaries should be warm

  • we've been to Tenerife a number of times at October half term and it's usually pretty warm
  • but not sure how cheap it will be as generally people book quite early for October half term.
LBOCS2 · 25/07/2022 17:02

We usually do Fuerteventura in the October or Feb half terms - it's bearably (definitely sunbathing) hot with cooler evenings, perfect for us.

Figgygal · 25/07/2022 17:07

Honestly what do you consider affordable?
Prices are outrageous this year

Grackl8 · 25/07/2022 17:22

None of these places are going to be cheap in October half term!
You need to book much earlier.

Oorwulliesbucket · 25/07/2022 17:31

Turkey much cheaper than canaries in october x

Grackl8 · 25/07/2022 17:34

Turkey closes down in October, as do a number of the Greek islands!

To be honest, I’ve never booked a package holiday in the school term, so had no idea of costs.

after looking around, I’m genuinely stunned. For a week’s holiday either last week of August or October half term, for 2 adults and 1 child to a big standard package deal, it’s coming in at £3-4k. Is that normal?????

i was hoping for something around the £2-2.5k mark.

What are the dates of the half term op? Out of curiosity (as I don’t need school hols) I plugged in mid October for a week for 2 Adults a six year old.
I was actually surprised that there was some pretty reasonable prices and some free child places.
This is for jet2 and I put canaries in.
There were certainly a few around the 2-2,500 for all of you.

Grackl8 · 25/07/2022 18:04

Oh, and I just randomly chose Manchester airport for departure. No idea where you are in the country.

Grackl8 · 25/07/2022 18:06

3-4 k is an insane amount to be paying!

saddowizca · 25/07/2022 18:10

I know it would be a bit naughty but I would be tempted to take a 6 yr old out of school for a holiday…
