Teachers - End of term crash

EntertainingandFactual · 25/07/2022 12:40

Not sure if that’s the right expression but I’m wondering if others are the same as me!

Finished at 1pm Thursday, slept from 2-6pm

Friday, woke up at midday, slept for another 3 hrs 3-6pm

Saturday, out all day

Sunday, woke at 11am, slept 1-6pm

Monday, woke early, slept on and off until 12pm - want to go back to bed now!

Am I ill or is anyone else like this?
I Can’t stop sleeping.

I am that person. After every school year had ended it took me at least 2 weeks to recover. Apart from the stresses of teaching I became sleep deprived due to an early start every day and a partner who wouldn't go to bed before midnight. So my lovely 'long' summer holiday became 2 weeks sleeping and felling like a zombie, 2 weeks away (like everyone else) then 2 weeks get ready for the next year. What joy!!

Yep.
Saturday - tried to get on top of the housework. Failed.
Sunday - went to a local music festival which nearly killed me off!
Monday - haven't moved from the sofa all day. Need to finish that housework!

Yes! Exactly this.
2 weeks recovery
2 weeks holiday
2 weeks preparation

@loopylindi

Just to add to the above, yes, my ‘day out’ on Saturday nearly killed me off too! 😳😅

Usually yes. But my DC don’t let me! I go to stay with my mum most holidays and it’s once I get there that my body crashes, because mum will let me!

MadeinBelfast · 25/07/2022 13:16

I was exactly like this and now I have Covid! So much for enjoying a nice long holiday 🙁 Hope you feel more awake soon.

EntertainingandFactual · 25/07/2022 13:18

@mnahmnah
Yes, lots of summers spent with grandparents when the DC were young for this very reason. My lovely Mum pretty much took over.
Mine are older now.

@MadeinBelfast

I’m so sorry. I’ve been ill every holiday this year, it’s so frustrating. Hope you get better soon!

@EntertainingandFactual

mine are 5 and 10 and have amazingly made friends in my mum’s quiet street. So they go to their house and play out! It’s brilliant!

Pekkala · 25/07/2022 13:22

I try to book an adults only, all inclusive hol somewhere hot for 10 days just after the end of term. The fact it's a resort means I don't feel like I'm missing out on culture like I would if I slept through city break, there's no screaming kids to make my ears prick up, and every few minutes someone wanders past my sunbed to see if I want more rum -based beverages. It's perfect. I do fuck all (except put on weight and gently pickle my liver, obvs.)

EntertainingandFactual · 25/07/2022 13:23

@mnahmnah That’s lovely 😊

Do you feel ill in any other way? I hope it’s just end of year fatigue!

EntertainingandFactual · 25/07/2022 13:25

@Pekkala
THAT is what I should do.
I need to plan ahead!

I'm support staff rather than teacher but yes this is me. Absolutely shattered and napping in between entertaining the dc.

@mnahmnah
No, I’m sure I’m just exhausted.
I just want to sleep. My bed is the best place in the world at the moment!

You know why you're ill every holiday.....knackered immune system. You'll keep going all through the terms cos you have to, but once the pressure's off it'll be every virus/ infection for him/herself! Build up your immunity during termtime.

Mojitomogul · 25/07/2022 13:35

Yes exactly the same and I'm support staff! Don't have any planning but still find it intense ! Just want to sleep , keep making lists and not starting them!

VerifiedBot2351 · 25/07/2022 13:40

I get that too, but it was even worse this year as I tested positive for covid on Saturday morning

TFMinx · 25/07/2022 13:42

My DH and I were talking about this last night. I've basically slept the weekend away whilst he's taken on childcare/housework. I'm probably more tired then ever as I'm almost 25 weeks pregnant, but still the crash is a very real thing. Hopefully it'll balance out in a couple of days
