Do things go mysteriously missing in your house?

It's starting to get on my tits but now and again things will just fucking vanish, never to be seen again. The latest one is one of those metal radiator hangers that you dry clothes on. I mean, how? I have only just noticed because obviously haven't used the radiators for awhile. It's happened before with various things and drives me mad.

Do you have teenage children

Squiff70 · 25/07/2022 00:46

Regularly. And yet everyone denies all knowledge of either the item ever existing in the first place, or seeing it or moving it to another location. You often find said objects years later in the most random places - places YOU know you'd never have put it in the first place. One of life's little mysteries!

ThreeGoingCrazy · 25/07/2022 00:46

Bank cards. They literally just vanish and then six months later they'll be somewhere obvious. Other stuff to, but bank cards are obv easier to shift if you're incorporeal

I do, but they are very and I do mean very uninterested in any kind of laundry. Why do you ask?

This jewellery box on my bedside shelf had 2 earrings in it the other day. I'll likely never see the other one again. Good job they were cheap ones. 🙄
I have very inquisitive and mischievous 6 year old twin DDs. This shit happens a lot. If I have precious things I have to remember to hide them ASAP.

Water bottles are the bane of my fucking life.
Every day I hunt for the big, brightly coloured fuckers multiple times after my children just place them down without a care.

Featuredcreature · 25/07/2022 00:59

I mean things like keys I can understand, they can get swallowed by a sofa, or shoved somewhere. This clothes hanger is quite large. Another one was a make up bag. I have never taken it outside the house, gone, forever, I have 2 boys and a girl who has never worn makeup in her life, that one really pissed me off.

It's always the most random and boring items like a radiator clothes airer or in my case my ironing board that go missing. They're not small either, so unlikely to be hidden in plain sight. Other strange disappearances have been a laundry hamper, 3 pairs of wellies and the scoop from my laundry powder. Either pixie thieves or I'm losing my marbles

Maybe it's the source of those people who have random things appear, like the person who had the random step ladder appear in a cupboard, I'm sure that was on here lately lol

Some teenagers have no respect for other people's property. They take it/use it/lose it and have no recollection of ever having done so

caringcarer · 25/07/2022 01:14

Strange so many things laundry related. Chocolate biscuits vanish in my house. Ice cream too.

PacketOfPolos · 25/07/2022 01:29

Other way around.

I come across stuff that has come from ????.

I know the source but for the first few years it did my head in.

Mugs never seen before in non mug cupboard.

Board games from 80s never seen before in with other games. Or at back of cupboard with washing powder. Or under sofa.

Strange electrical kitchen appliances in cupboard under stairs.

Entire line libraries of free DVDs behind furniture......

I NEED things to go missing! Being confronted with eg an unusually shaped drinking glass that you've never seen before is... It does make you think you're going properly mad tbh!

SnoopLabbyLab · 25/07/2022 06:52

Hairbrushes very much lead their own lives in this house, coming and going as they please. Now and again I bump into one and have a little brush, but there’s no firm arrangement.

NotThisWeekSatan · 25/07/2022 06:54

@SnoopLabbyLab 🤣🤣

ColmanFlamingo · 25/07/2022 06:57

Yesterday, I literally found a frying pan that we took camping 4 years ago and couldn't find when we got back. It was in DS's wardrobe!!!

MushMonster · 25/07/2022 07:00

In my house random things appear!
It vould be a space-time mass transfer happening here!

I have just tidiedand cleaned the whole house this weekend. For the whole weekend!
I bet you by next Saturday there will be new books, random packaging, sweets and crisps everywhere.
If I happen to find any ironing board, hanger, ear ring or similar, I will let you know.

romdowa · 25/07/2022 07:01

Are you living in my house? Or the Bermuda triangle as I call it. Things are forever just vanishing, and then randomly turning up again.

Chocoqueen · 25/07/2022 07:08

Yes. But it tends to be because my 11 month old who's taken a liking to something random and hidden it. Spoons usually.

thewaitislong · 25/07/2022 07:10

Teaspoons in my last house. About 10 of them slowly disappeared over the 3 years we lived there. No other cutlery, just the teaspoons. And I started being very careful about where I put them, in case they were ending up in the bin or something. Nope.
Also a pestle. There's no place else you out to go besides the kitchen you'd think.
I thought we'd discover them all when we moved houses, but nope, never to be seen again.
I'm convinced there was a teaspoon ghost thief in that house.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 25/07/2022 09:08

The bath plug! I have searched high and low, but nada.

AppleHa · 25/07/2022 09:11

The weirdest thing that has disappeared is a set of cheese knives shaped like garden implements. Why would anyone take them?! They have vanished about eight years ago from the drawer they were in.
But smaller things vanish all the time. Hair bobbles are the worst. I can understand misplaying them because they are small, they fall out of my hair in bed etc, but the sheer number I have bought over the years, where are they all? Also, tweezers.

AppleHa · 25/07/2022 09:16

It could of course be that time travellers are taking your things as souvenirs because you are going to be famous in the future

Isseywith3witchycats · 25/07/2022 09:19

yes at the moment i have a baking dish that has totally vanished its never been out of my kitchen its about ten inches across how i have pulled all the cupboards out and no its gone annoyed its that one because its one i use a lot

tartancutlery · 25/07/2022 09:24

My dh likes to put things in piles all around the house. It doesn't matter what goes in them or who's stuff is in them he decides it's annoying him and piles. I have to go around deconstructing the piles and search for things but then he almost follows me around repiling the stuff as I move.
Infuriating!!! Means everything goes missing. My driving license was the most recent victim. After I left it on the kitchen worktop having taken a photo of it for a form and went off to do sometimes else

mrskatebob · 25/07/2022 09:28

Yes, it's usually DH'd ADHD that is the culprit.

Remote control in the bathroom, hammer on a pillow in the spare room, milk taken out of the fridge and put in the cupboard under the sink etc.
