House renovation what to avoid/must have

Hi we are about to start a big make over on our house in the next few weeks, we are having a single story side extension, new kitchen and plan to redecorate the whole house and get new flooring. So what would you recommend we avoid,or consider having. This house is our forever home

Hardwood flooring, except for the bathroom.

Sorry. Read that as single story house. NOT hardwood up or on the stairs.

Jesus. Upstairs.

When I remodel our next home I will not have the following:

Under cabinet lights - never used them once
A free standing bath - again, I used it three times. Neither my DS nor my bf like baths and even if they did the bath was too small. Plus it was a bugger to get out of!
A large sink in the bathroom - absolute eyesore
Beige carpet on the stairs - nice and understated but boring

I will have again:

Kohler Mira rainforest shower
Panels rather than tiles on the shower walls
Shiny kitchen cabinets
Non branded paint - some of it is better than the expensive stuff
Laminate - lasted for years!
Ikea duvet sets - really good value and lasts well
A belfast or butler sink - both really good

I am also very taken with the Beko white goods in our home. They are cheap and I would have them.
