It's my DB birthday in a week or so and I'm desperately racking my brains for an interesting gift for him. Up to about 40 or 50 quid, I just feel like I've done all the usual crap and need something different. He has a garden bar but I've done to death all the boozy/bar things under the sun. Is a big geeky but have bought him about a hundred t shirts. Have done restaurant vouchers, can't find any gig or comedy tickets that are any good and in budget. I'm having a total brain fart and thought the mass collective might have some bright ideas. Anyone?

When you say geeky, what kind of geeky things is he into?

Serenitymummy · 24/07/2022 19:54

Umm Marvel, DC, Star Wars, some more recent stuff like Stranger Things and The Boys. Quite a big fan of cinema and movies in general.

Cinema vouchers?

Needmorelego · 24/07/2022 20:15

Why do you feel you have to spend £40/50?
Have you asked him if there's anything he would like?
If he hasn't asked for anything specific just buy a paperback novel and some beers.

That's just our normal budget for each other so I'd look like a tight arse/bit of a dick if I didn't.

@Serenitymummy just ask him if there's anything particular he wants then !!
I never understand why people don't just say "hey - what would you like for your birthday this year?"

A collection of vintage Marvel books or an out of print/second hand book? Abe Books is great, ebay has loads. (Folio does great marvel but they are ££££)

Have done this already but he has no idea either. But I can't just get him nothing, that's rubbish!

You can make him a personalized wall calendar with Marvel characters/scenes from movies he likes. There are calendar making apps for that, you'll design your own thing in there and then just print it out. Or check out Shutterfly.
Also look for items with Marvel/Stranger things etc prints. There are tons of fanmade and official stuff, so could be something like a socks set or figures (think Baby Yoda, etc). If there are bands or artists he loves, could be books about them or vinyls.
Or maybe just money and a birthday video with theme song from one of the movies he likes.

Agree to stop exchanging gifts. Saves an enormous amount of stress and waste. If he wants something he can buy it himself. If you want something, you buy it yourself when you want it.

He'll be a rare man if he actually wants to exchange gifts with his sister and will probably be relieved to be freed from the obligation to think up a good present to give you on your birthday.

If you meet up, pay for the meal, drinks or if you go to his house buy him an interesting bottle of spirits of the type he likes for his bar.
