My job has been advertised

I haven’t given in notice nor plan to leave but I have seen my job advertised online and I’m really worried. I work in a school, it’s a one person specific job so it isn’t that they’re employing a second person. I’m not sure what to do from here but I presume they’re going to ask me not to return? I’m in my 6 month probation period and I’ve been told I’m doing great and they’re happy with my work and given me information for September return so it’s a shock to have found it but not knowing this would happen. Any advice before I ring my boss? Thanks

Probably an administrative error from the council HR department, copying and pasting details for the same job at another school.

Screen shot the ad.

Where I work people come in on supply and then the advert is put out - they apply along with everyone else as they must take the best candidate. It’s the way it works. Perhaps they assumed you’d apply?

Id ask.

Hi, just saw the advert for X job on y website. Am I expected to apply for this role as it’s permanent?

But OP isn't there on supply is she? OP have you got a permanent contract (but are coming to the end of your 6 month probation period)? It does sound really odd. Definitely ask your boss. But if you have a permanent contract and have been given stuff for September I can't see why you're worried? You'd have to fail probation for them to get rid of you, and you'd know about that!

Is it a general admin type role? It's more likely they'll move your role say from front desk to attendance officer if the contracts are similar etc but they would normally let you know in advance.

Is it definitely not an old advert?

Smartiepants79 · 24/07/2022 19:18

That’s decidedly odd. If they’ve said they’re happy with you and given you info about September I can’t see why they’d be bothering to waste valuable money and time on trying to replace you behind your back.
Are you sure they don’t just need a second person to do the same job? Are you working in the holidays? School will be mostly not functioning til September now.
