How often do you open your post?

Aaaargh, yet again we face an overdue and extra-expensive fine for something (driving down one of those roads with a completely missable no-cars sign in this case) because DH almost never opens his post. It's like 3 times a year, tops. I'm quite sure he thinks he goes through his post every couple of weeks, but no, it's about every 4 months. Honestly, once he decided to take his post on the train to the airport for a holiday, and he found, among other things, an HMRC demand for £500 (paid, fortunately) and a cheque from them for nearly £10k that we then had to carry around on our holiday!

I am not going to open his post, because I am not making it my responsibility, it is his.

I immediately open anything that doesn't look like junk mail or something I know is regular - not much anymore because I do most things paperless now, but I never leave things for months on end.

Open as soon as it arrives. Then it is binned, filed (put in big box) or put somewhere until dealt with.

Dh is the same as yours, lets it pile up then makes a big fuss about having so much to deal with 🤷🏻‍♀️

Same day

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 23/07/2022 19:46

Always as soon as it arrives or later Same day if on way out

lickenchugget · 23/07/2022 19:46

Every day

AllThatAndMore · 23/07/2022 19:47

I open mine immediately . I thought everyone did ? 😆

sessell · 23/07/2022 19:48

Hardly ever. I shamefully let it pile up, assuming it's irrelevant, which it usually is.

CuriousCatfish · 23/07/2022 19:48

As soon as it arrives. We don't really get a lot of post though.

CornishTiger · 23/07/2022 19:49

daily!

I would be furious if my DH did this.

DuneFan · 23/07/2022 19:50

As soon as I see it, but how much post does he get?! Parcel deliveries and Christmas cards aside, we get about one letter a week!

Echobelly · 23/07/2022 19:51

DH is very all or nothing - he goes on a massive spree of opening the post a few times a year (and then takes several more months to actually file it away 🙄)

Funnily enough I had this discussion with a friend when it's the opposite situation with him and his wife - she's the one who never opens anything, and he also agreed he's not opening it for her.

I do open DH's business mail - he's a freelance consultant and I'm officially a director of his business, so I joke that is my job in the business. I open it to check if it's a tax demand, or indeed rebate; most of it is junk mail, though.

I couldn't live like this. Absolutely chaotic behaviour

Fairyliz · 23/07/2022 19:52

As soon as I get it, I alway feel really excited at the thought of opening it.
Nit sure why I’ve never had anything really good arrive in the post, but I live in hope.

Yorkshirepuddingwithsyrupnotgravy · 23/07/2022 19:52

I'm mostly paperless and so probably only get post (or deliveries) maybe twice a month but do open it the day it arrives just incase I've won the premium bonds ! 😘

Augend23 · 23/07/2022 19:56

Sometimes I only open it the next day... That's bonkers. I don't know if I could put up with it.

Ponderingwindow · 23/07/2022 19:57

4 days or so. Sometimes a week.

we have to collect it from a central neighborhood delivery station that covers everyone on the street and we don’t bother to do it daily unless we are waiting for something in particular.

when the post got delivered right to our door we opened it daily.

Ponderingwindow · 23/07/2022 20:03

DH and I don’t do his and her mail though unless it is personal like a birthday card. If something is obviously a bill or just standard paperwork, we just open everything regardless of the name on the envelope and just tell the other person if it was out of the ordinary. It’s the same when we pay bills. Someone just sits down and goes through the stack unless something in particular mandated one individuals attention. It’s just more efficient.
