Hi all, my partner has just changed jobs and now does 4x11 hour shifts where he has to be on his feet for the whole time (aside from breaks) in heavy work boots. His feet are throbing. He has tried Epsom salt baths, deep freeze cold spray etc but his feet are killing him. If any of you guys stand a lot, do you have any tips for how to ease it or will his feet eventually get used to it? Thanks!

he will get used to it but things that can help are standing on a softer surface ie if he is standing in one place for any length of time can he stand on a foam mat or even a piece of cardboard. Also warm/thick socks or insoles.

Those gel inserts/insoles might help

Proper orthotics, making sure his leg muscles are strong, ice and elevating his feet as soon as he comes in the door.

What sort of work is he doing?

HappyMaltesers · 23/07/2022 11:21

'Sorbothane double strike' insoles.

He might need to size up his boots to fit them in. They make such a difference!

A foot spa might help.

Insoles, moving about if possible and buying the most comfortable shoes possible.

Thanks all, he's working with wood in a busy production environment so he has to wear the heavy steel toe caps. He's had jobs where he's warn these kind of boots before but never that have involved standing/walking around all day. I'll get him to try these tips and check out those insoles. Thank you!

Naot make good footbed inserts but they are pricey.

His feet could be swelling by two full sizes and width fittings - add in decent socks and insoles and he really needs to be measured as though he was running a marathon; a running shop is brilliant for this kind of thing.

Great shout, thank you.

Skechers and insoles , I woke in retail and do 20,000 steps a shift and my feet often kill me .. being the right weight helps as less pressure on joints

Garysparrowsthirdwife · 23/07/2022 16:57

I stand all day and good insoles,a cold foot bath at the end of the day and thick socks help

i am used to it now but I’ve been doing it for 6 years

BogRollBOGOF · 23/07/2022 18:00

My legs ached less after I took up running.

Good insoles and socks.

Magnesium oil can be good on tired muscles.
