Had a flexible cystoscopy today....might have a UTI?

Had a cystoscopy today. Was told there's a risk of infection, but the thing is...the post-cystoscopy symptoms seem to be the same as symptoms of a UTI, so not sure what to do?!

Bladder/urethra feels sore, a bit of blood (told was expected), generally just feel like I've got a UTI, but not sure if it's just normal after a procedure? Not sure at what point to call a GP?

Hi Buzzheath. Sorry to hear you are feeling sore. I had my second cystoscopy today after having one previously about 7 years ago. I was given a preventative dose of antibiotics after the procedure as I'm prone to recurring UTIs, so hopefully it is unlikely that I will go on to develop an infection. I don't know whether this is routinely given in my area or only where people are at high risk.

For comparison, last time I was very sore for the first 24-36 hours, with a little bit of blood in my urine, then felt much better. For me today, it is sore when I urinate but I'm not going to the loo any more frequently than usual and I'm not feeling like I still need to pee between trips to the loo, so I'm not suspecting an infection.

Are you going to the loo more frequently OP? Any abdominal pain or discomfort? Having to strain at all or feeling like you haven't fully emptied? If it is just the sting, I think there's no cause for concern yet. Hope you feel better soon x

@PurplePeach83 Thanks! And sorry you had to have a cystoscopy too - hope all was okay. I'm not really in any pain but when I press on my bladder area it feels tender and sore and like I need to pee (even when I just went)! Think I'll see how it is tomorrow and then call my GP. I was also given a preventative antibiotic before the procedure.

@buzzheath Thanks, mine was fine, just confirmed what I had thought for years, that I had a chronic embedded infection.

Hope yours was ok? Yes, sounds like a good plan to see how you feel tomorrow. Also if you need to get up in the night to pee when you don't usually or wake up feeling a strong urge to pee, that's often a sign of UTI.

Hope you feel much better tomorrow x 💐

I had a cystoscopy just before Xmas last year, due to blood in urine, didn’t feel too bad on the day, didn’t get a UTI, but I was in pain for a couple of days after. Take care of yourself. Good luck.

Drink & drink, you need to flush your bladder out as much as you can, it's normal to feel sore afterwards.
