You know the dishwasher vodka that was all the rage a few years ago?

Does it work with gin? I would assume it does but I didn't want to waste a bottle if it wouldn't work! I want to try making gin with Cherry Drops in it 😋

I would imagine it does. As a student I used that method to make Mars bar vodka which was very nice with milk and skittles vodka that I drank with lemonade.

Blackdiame · 21/07/2022 18:18

Yes. Works with any clear spirit really. I've done Werthers Original rum before. Gives a nice rum toffee flavour.

I'm sorry WHAT

Don't see why it wouldn't work

I don't own a dishwasher but I am intrigued.
Tell me more . . . . .

Please 🍸

Basically, you need a bottle of vodka and your choice of sweets, put the sweets in the bottle of vodka, tighten the lid, run through the dishwasher and all the sweets melt giving you a vodka that tastes of your sweets! It works without a dishwasher, it just takes longer and you have to shake the bottle occasionally.

Thanks all! I'll try it as soon as I get some more Cherry Drops!

Does it have to be for a specific time? Like a 3hr eco wash, or is the 30 min rapid cycle enough?

I can't remember.

Hopefully this link works! It's a link to lots of threads about doing it 🙂 maybe one of these has the answer to your question www.mumsnet.com/search?q=dishwasher%20vodka

As you can make gin with vodka and assorted herbs/spices/aromatics anyway (just as long as you always include juniper), there is no reason at all why you can't make cherry drop gin. Other than 'you've bought some of that Gordon's shite' - because that's a waste of Cherry Drops and no amount of sweetie goodness can make up for having industrial strength degreaser in a green bottle.

Annonnimoouse42 · 21/07/2022 18:58

I've made flavoured video dka with very strong Swedish salted liquorice sweets. But i just ground them with food processor and they dissolved within a week or so in the vodka.
I'll definitely put in dishwasher next time

Funnily enough I do have Gordon's 😄 but I didn't buy it, MIL had a clear out and gave me it.

@AintNobodyHereButUsChickens
Thanks.

I am not keen on vodka and don't like gin at all (I hope this doesn't get me kicked off Mumsnet) however I do have some Morgan spiced rum and pineapple cubes I wonder if that would work I'm guessing they will take a very long time to dissolve tho

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 22/07/2022 07:33

@DeanStockwelll shouldn't take too long, especially if you crush them first!

OP posts:
Chasingsquirrels · 22/07/2022 07:36

I used the dishwasher the first time, and it didn't fully dissolve the sweets so I just left them and shook.

Since then I haven't bothered with the dishwasher, just used the leave and shake method.
