What have you acquired, but have no idea how?

We have a 6ft step ladder. I found it in the boiler cupboard a few years ago and everybody denies owning it. DP knows nothing about it. I asked neighbours in case we'd borrowed it and forgotten and they said not theirs.

We'd had no builders etc. in for at least 8 months and honestly I think we'd noticed a 6ft high step ladder in the boiler cupboard before that time was up.

It's an extremely useful ladder as we have high ceilings but it's origin remains entirely unknown.

Three kids.

A tray with the British Rail logo on it. Had it for years but no idea where it came from.

A wire shopping basket that I keep my ironing pile in. Again, no idea.

Completely impractical.

3 Amazon Kindle Fire things - according to DH they came free with some things he ordered, but he’s very vague about the exact nature of the things Hmm

squashyhat · 21/07/2022 15:03

Wrinkles, 1.5 stone and the ability to say 'ooof' every time I sit down.

minou123 · 21/07/2022 15:07

Little cake forks.

Spring cleaning the kitchen and found them on top of the fridge.
No idea where they have come from.

I'm not complaining or anything. Just need to go and buy some cake now 😁

PinkButtercups · 21/07/2022 15:13

A nice perky butt!

Not sure how as none of the other women in my family do 🤣

MrsReeves · 21/07/2022 15:35

A man's watch. Not one of OH. Thought one of daughter's "friends" had left it but she says no and "why would he need to take his watch off?" Hmm No idea where it came from. It's just sitting on a shelf until someone claims it

Not acquired anything, but if anyone has acquired a black Mint Velvet jumper with giant glittery lip prints on it, it's mine. It has mysteriously disappeared from my house, so it may have mysteriously appeared in one of yours!

(Great idea for a thread OP!)

BlueKaftan · 21/07/2022 15:47

My neighbour’s cat. 🤷‍♀️ He spends his days on my lawn then going home late in the evening.

elephantoverthehill · 21/07/2022 15:48

A very useful pair of scissors. I found them when clearing up the boys' room. They don't recognise them and is not something you would expect teenage boys to buy.

unicormb · 21/07/2022 15:50

A small stone Buddha, smaller than the palm of my hand. I have no idea where it came from as I am not into things like that, and DH even more so. Nobody bought me it. Possibly DS brought it in from the garden. Anyway it now lives in my kitchen. I went to throw it away the other day and then didn't.

Pumpkinsanddaisies · 21/07/2022 16:03

A pair of black knickers from Sainsburys that are identical to ones I have brought in my size 12, but this acquired pair is a size 16 which I have never purchased. They turned up in my pile of clean washing I was sorting!

An asthma pump, it appeared in my (very rarely used) car the other day. My DC are too young to drive, DH found and has no idea whose it is. Very odd.

Also a nice M&S cardigan that appeared at a party I hosted. I asked nearly everyone if it were theirs and no one claimed it.

maddy68 · 21/07/2022 16:36

Qualifications. Seriously. In not that cheaper have a master's and briefly considered a PhD. I'm honestly not clever

Evivie · 21/07/2022 16:37

A husband. I was going to stay single forever 😀

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 21/07/2022 16:38

Quite a few teaspoons. People are always complaining that teaspoons mysteriously disappear in their houses, well they have migrated to mine.

Frogium · 21/07/2022 16:42

two stones.

They belong to your future size 16 arse! 😁

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 21/07/2022 17:11

DD brought a guitar home with her at the end of term last year. No idea who it belongs to! There was a little silver bracelet in the case- the size for a small child also unclaimed.

We also have a bottle of men's aftershave in the bathroom with no obvious owner. It's not DH's because he only wears Tom Ford and it's Issey Miyake. No guests for 2 years other than SIL who only wears Chanel. It smells lovely though!

SprinkleOfInsanity · 21/07/2022 17:48

A very expensive Montblanc pen. It appeared in DH's bedside drawer, and came across it when I was looking for a pen to write a shopping list in bed. We have NO IDEA where it has come from, and a bit Shock at the price that this particular one is selling for. Have asked friends and colleagues if anyone is missing it, and no one is claiming it.

It's a brilliant shopping list pen Grin
