Would you go to this work event (covid risk)?

I have a holiday booked next month, my only time off for the foreseeable. We have a show booked along with other nice things, it's a family get together etc...it will be lovely. I really need the break too

But my workplace has recently merged with another org and they are having an event to celebrate. The event will consist of going to a show at a place with thousands of other people and then at dinner and drinks after there will be about 70 of us to all meet each other. They have said we expect you there unless you're ill. Lots of my colleagues have had covid lately.

I feel under pressure to go to show face to the bosses but I would be devastated if I missed my hol due to illness as I've been looking forward to it for so long. What do you think?

How close together is the event and holiday?

I wouldn't go having just caught it on holiday, but be a bit strategic about it.
Say you will go and develop a sore throat and fever on the day so you can't.

@LIZS I will go on holiday 9 days after the event.

I am even thinking about going to one part of the event and not the rest...to at least make some kind of effort. Obviously the risk will be there if I go to the dinner or the show and worse if I do both.

If it helps the incubation period is relatively short, 2-3 days, and the isolation period 5. So you could have it and recover in time.

Took me 12 days to recover enough to do anything "normal".

Would you be allowed to book the day off as holiday OP?

@LIZS I actually had covid in late Feb. Started feeling under the weather after 3 days. Didn't test negative for a week after the event I caught it at. So that's where my concern comes in.
