Teenager- Teeth out before brace

SeaGrassMirror · 21/07/2022 08:58

Hi,
can someone please help.
DD aged 13 is having 2 appointments to have 3 teeth out prior to having a brace fitted.

I have just managed to get both appointments in the summer holidays.

Can anyone tell me how many days she may be feeling rubbish/sore for? So I can plan accordingly for summer stuff!

Totally understand everyone is different but I have no personal experience.

Is she having a local or general anaesthetic?

After a local she'll feel numb and a bit sore, but probably ok after a day or two.

If it's a GA, she'll be out of action for a few days. Let her sleep it off and she'll be fine.

Hope that helps

I remember having 4 teeth out before having a brace. At the time, (20 ish years ago) it was a general anaesthetic in the dentist's chair. I had been absolutely dreading it, but it was actually fine! When I woke up, I was a bit groggy for a bit, but remember not feeling too bad at all and back to normal pretty quickly.

Write the day off that they have it then back to normal.

I had all four of my front-most molars removed as a child for braces (plus 11 baby teeth because the bastards wouldn't fall out and my second teeth were growing out sideways behind them). My Mum used to drop me to school afterwards and I was a bit under the weather that day but mostly fine the next day, definitely fine after two days.

DD had 2 out under local anaesthetic. She was uncomfortable for the rest of day then back to normal.

In fact, now I think about it, it was early morning appt and I then took her to school. Maybe that was a bit harsh of me?!

I was dreading my teenager having it done but he was fine too. I've had unhealthy teeth out and that's been rotten. Maybe it's different if teeth are alright in the first place.

I had my 4 teeth out before braces, all during school time, local not general. I was completely fine, and carried on normal the next day.

DS had a lot out as he had an extra set behind the real ones. He was fine the next day and went rugby training!

Ah thanks. Sorry for delayed reply!!

it will be local anaesthetic. that’s all really helpful, she won’t be out of action long then :)

My DS had 2 teeth out one week and 2 the next he was sore the following day then back to normal. He had braces fitted two weeks later

I also had 4 out for braces with local anaesthetic, I had two out in 2 appointments a week apart. It was during term time and I was back at school the next day, I remember the first side was just feeling fully back to normal (as in no discomfort at all, I think it was actually painful for the first 24-48 hours) in time for the second side to be done.

StopDontTalkToMe · 21/07/2022 20:31

I had 2 out for braces as an adult. Super easy, no pain at all. Just got to be careful not to dislodge the clot so soft foods and no sticking tongue in the gaps! However tempting

maddy68 · 21/07/2022 20:31

She won't be feeling rubbish. It will feek weird for a day or two
