What has broken into our locked food waste caddy?!

We have had a food waste caddy outside for some years now and the contents have always stayed undisturbed in between collections. It has a handle which pushes from the back, up over the top and down the front of it to lock it securely. It is not easy to open and requires some strength and dexterity. For the first time ever 'something' has managed to unlock it, tip it over and eat the contents.

What is the 'something'?!

PS UK-based, no bears - AFAIK.

I've probably pissed the foxes off as our waste food bin contains a lot of egg shells and tea bags!!

That's the thing, we don't have a lot of food waste so unless slugs had managed to squeeze in too, ours probably only had tea bags, egg shells and a few old porridge oats in it at the time. A lot of work for not very rich pickings. You have to feel sorry for them, especially in that heat.

We're still not sure who actually owns the cat so who knows? Mine just goes and sits on her windowsill if it fancies a treat!

Oh yes, the old passive-aggressive staring through the window trick!

my money would be badgers.
they are the only animal strong enough to unball a hedgehog, so I could see them ripping the caddy open

I caught a badger knocking over our food caddy which fell open and he ate a load of food until he saw me and legged it

The one in this short clip doesn't seem to have a lock on:

@BafflingBurglar True OP Grin my fox 🦊 is not just an classic MN'er, making the known Mn chicken last all week, he's even more skilled and can make a single chicken drumstick feed the Mn masses.

Squirrels. A small gang of squirrels used to come everyday and get into the food caddy. Chasing them away was a waste of time, they'd just come back later. They absolutely destroyed the lid, leaving it with gaping holes in. I rang the Council and they delivered a new one to me which I now have to keep in the kitchen.
