How to get weird smell out of new dress??

I have just bought a floor length satin gown for an event. It is brand new from a department store but it has an odd smell to it. I think because of the type of fabric. How can I get rid of the smell? I am too afraid to chuck it in the washing machine as it's delicate and expensive, I don't want to ruin it! Please help.

What are the washing instructions? Dry clean only?

Febreeze the living shit out of it? Turn it inside out first.

If you can just hang it outside to air. It probably doesn’t need washing just some time in a breeze to waft the smell away!

Don;t febreze it. That'll make it stink of Febreze which is just as revolting as any bad smell.

Air it - hang it in the sunshine for a few days and spray your favourite light, fresh smelling perfume into the air around it when you bring it in at night.

I find everything can be washed on the cold non spin cycle, inside a knotted pillow case, using delicates detergent (which smells so lovely). Then hang outside to drip dry.

Or if you can't do that, put it in a room with window wide open and door shut.

If you hang outside, make sure it’s not in the direct sunlight or it might fade the fabric.

How soon will you wear it?

Show me the care label , I'd be surprised if it isn't polyester and would wash very well if it's smelly!

What is the smell? I had a shirt that smelled like a gas leak, and continued to do so after several washes. At which point I stopped wearing it.

It says 40 degree wash. It think it's the chemicals they use on the dress to stop creasing. It's a fishy smell. Satin polyester blend dress. Ironically it has some creases in it that I need to iron out so chemicals did not work!

Stick it in the wash at 90 degrees? Hot drying cycle.
Should deal with the smell

Put it in a pillowcase on a cool delicate wash with a little detergent and if you can tolerate it some laundry softener. Then hang it outside or inside near a window.

Or have it dry cleaned.

Satin polyester is just polyester and it will wash very well ..

Wash it inside out with a good amount of fabric softener and hang it the second the machine finishes !

Polyester doesn't like being dry cleaned , plus it will just smell of chemicals again. !
