Just me and dh, I am vegetarian, he is not. Not Bob Bob Ricard, Dishoom or The Ivy. I'm looking for somewhere indulgent, but not £££££.

Any recommendations please.

Gauthier in soho have a veggie tasting menu, it's amazing! Not sure on your price range but work a look.

Mardyface · 20/07/2022 10:45

One of the Ottolenghis?

Our go to for special occasions is St Jacques in St James. Fun and French but not too £££££

rookiemere · 20/07/2022 10:51

This place is excellent chamisse.com/.

KateLumley · 20/07/2022 10:55

Gauthier looks lovely, however I think dh will want a meaty option.

Honey & Co is my favourite restaurant of all time. There is also one called Honey & Smoke. The food is amazing and there are good veggie options.

KateLumley · 20/07/2022 12:40

That looks lovely @florianfortecue

Copper and Ink in Blackheath. Amazing (and very sensibly priced) tasting menu, and a veggie tasting menu too. We did wine pairings with it and they were fab. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Or Trishna in Marylebone. Amazing indian food, we had the tasting menu there too, and think there was a veggie option.

If you want something that caters well to both veggie and non veggie, I agree that one of the ottolenghis is a good shout. I think Rovi is probably the fanciest, but Nopi also lovely. On similar theme, coal office in kings cross is absolutely fab.
If you want more glitzy glamour, both Hakkasan and Yauatcha (both upmarket Chinese) are always fun and (imo) consistent. I have heard very good thinks about Bibi (posh Indian).
Is there any particular cuisine or area you want to concentrate on?

Chezbruce.co.uk is my favourite although not very flash and not sure how veggie friendly it is.

roses2 · 20/07/2022 13:12

I went to Ottolenghi - Rovi. Awful food! Four of us and none of us liked it. Their food tasted like they dropped a whole jar of powdered herbs and spices over every dish.

Mardyface · 20/07/2022 13:20

Wow really @roses2? That's a shame. I haven't been to Rovi but have been to his restaurants in Spitalfields and Islington and the food (esp in Islington) was unbelievably delicious. Was a while ago though, and I'm still not used to veggie food being a staple of good restaurants tbh. I fully approve obviously but I wonder if it clouds my judgement after 35 years of eating mushroom risotto.

KateLumley · 20/07/2022 13:40

@Mardyface if I see mushroom risotto on the menu, however they try to fancy it up, they are off the list.

Madera treehouse?

Verite1 · 20/07/2022 15:58

Surprised at the comment about Rovi. We all loved it as did everyone else I know. To be fair, I did slightly prefer the food at Nopi. He does use lots of spices though - that’s his thing (though the food is not spicy - just highly flavoured). I always recommend him for veggies as I often prefer the veggie dishes to the fish/meat ones.

ToastTheMost · 20/07/2022 16:33

I like The Palomar - book to sit at the bar, great food, and great fun! Maybe not for a romantic night though.

ToastTheMost · 20/07/2022 16:38

Also had lots of fun a Pied a Terre - which I thought would be fairly formal but it wasn't, the food was fabulous - might be too pricey, but they do have veggie menus.
