Help I just ate a potentially mouldy fridge raider

Went to the fridge to have a snack before bed and saw some fridge raiders which I thought were just a few days in the house.

Randomly looked at the date and they went out of date on the 11th and some were mouldy.

I suffer from health anxiety anyway and am panicking.

Is it use by or best before? Either way I still wouldn't worry. It's not like fresh or raw chicken or leftovers, the preservatives will also play a part in keeping these fresh or at least safe to eat. The 11th isn't really too bad, my partner eats all sorts of things like this out of date and is always fine.

Even if it was leftovers the effect shouldn't be too bad

Mouldyfoodhelp · 20/07/2022 01:58

It was use by, some were mouldy some weren't and most only had like a spot of mould only one or two had a reasonable surface area of mould.

Like I say I only ate one piece and I was in the dark, it tasted fine although now I feel it's in the top of my throat as I'm worrying.

Are you sure they were mouldy? They do have white patches on normally

Wallawallakoala · 20/07/2022 02:01

Oh one piece you won't even get a funny tummy! Really don't worry. Health anxiety is awful x

Mouldyfoodhelp · 20/07/2022 02:11

Yes definitely mould, I got them out of the bin to take a look and it looks like most aren't that bad but there are 2 major offenders in the bag

I ate off garlic once and then convinced myself I was going to her botulism. You will be fine OP! One bit, it will do nothing at all.

ouch321 · 20/07/2022 04:06

Not worth worrying about
And you eat such a teeny amount.

I eat some greenish chicken once. Did have a nasty stomach ache the next day but nothing more than that.

ChagSameachDoreen · 20/07/2022 06:34

You'll be fine.

Honestly there are more important things to worry about.

bakercakes · 15/08/2023 13:49

Hi, did this ever have any effect?
My husband has given my children a packet that's our of date by 7 days and I'm panicking.

BMW6 · 15/08/2023 13:56

Well certain death surely? 🙄

(Or perhaps a bit of puking or the shits? )

Mouldyfoodhelp · 15/08/2023 20:03

I was completely fine!

Thanks so much for replying. I have been really worried. I have a neurodiverse 5 year old who struggles with health anxiety and, although he doesn't know they were out of date, I have been very concerned that he would be ill which is very traumatic for him. I really appreciate the lovely and non judgemental reply. ❤️

bakercakes · 15/08/2023 20:26

Also really appreciate you not making jokes about my children dying, although shame the same can't be said for every poster!

Did your son get sick from this. I've bought fridge raiders from local spar 4/1/24 and I got maybe 5 in and thought they tasted weird, smelt them and they smelt off. I checked use by date and it was 28/12/23. I also have health anxiety and panicking now. 😥

healthanxietygallywally · 05/09/2024 15:13

Dear BMW6,

I recently viewed a message of yours, I am appalled. The fact you knew this person has health anxiety and you still had the nerve to say “Well certain death surely? 🙄

(Or perhaps a bit of puking or the shits? )”

I am appalled to say the least. The nerves!!

Health anxiety is not fun. I have a good friend that has this fear and she struggles with it a lot.

Imagine you had this fear. Imagine!

The everyday horror and anxiety of you and your body’s health would cause me trauma let alone someone who experiences it.
I was shaking in my boots when I saw this message. I had to process what I had just read. Gobsmacked to say the absolute least.

Please take back my message and think about your actions dearly.

Thankyou sincerely,

healthanxietygallywally!

You're potentially immortal to all diseases now.
