The voice on my shoulder?

Is that the expression? I want to conjure up the idea of a constant and guiding presence. Is there a better way to put it?

There is a constant and guiding presence but it not a voice.

No, it makes it sound like a talking parrot! What is the sentence you’re using the expression in? Are you talking about the ‘voice’ of conscience, or an absent person’s remembered advice, or something else entirely?

An absent person's remembered advice is the closest. It's someone who wrote a book- a technical guide to a particular thing which has been a big influence.

I'm sure there's some expression which is something like that. Maybe I am thinking of Jiminy Cricket!

the whisper in my ear?

PintofPlain · 19/07/2022 16:23

Then I’d say ‘the voice in my ear’ or ‘the voice AT my shoulder’..? The familiar voice of X at my shoulder?

Those are both much better, thank you!
