I need to travel to Cheltenham from chichester tomorrow evening for work on Thursday. Dh thinks I should cancel as its too hot. Would you travel? Do you think the train will be cancelled?

Temp is due to drop right down tomorrow so you'll be fine

Octomore · 19/07/2022 12:05

Tomorrow's forecast isn't hot though?

There is a separate question about whether rail services will be fully operational - tracks may have been damaged by today's temperatures.

Skinnermarink · 19/07/2022 12:08

yes, and I had to today to get to work, like thousands of others I expect.

Lochnessgiraffe · 19/07/2022 12:08

I've told him that he's convinced it's going to be as hot.
Train lines on the other hand may not be working.

Sorry but I’d have to laugh if my DH was concerned about my poor delicate lady self wilting in slightly hot temperatures. Does he also make you walk with a parasol?

Does he not understand the concept of weather changing from day to day? I assume you've shown him a forecast?

I wouldn't give any serious weight to the view of someone who doesn't understand weather forecasts.

Motnight · 19/07/2022 12:14

My concern would be not the heat but the possibility of knockon effects from the last 2 days.

Lochnessgiraffe · 19/07/2022 12:17

He muttered something about Russian hackers and the met Office and the reports of if being cooler being fake news. I think the heat has got to him

I would check tomorrow nearer the time if there's a way to do so, but it should be OK by then I would have thought.

I'm lucky enough to work at home during this weather but plenty of people still have to travel. My dad was in London yday on the train and it was all fine, fortunately!

I was in a train yesterday lunchtime - it was lovely! Air conditioned, well stocked buffet car and a complimentary ice cream upon arrival!

I’ll be travelling by underground and main line train tomorrow to meet a friend who expressed the same concerns and offered to postpone but there’s no way I’m missing out on a girly day around the shops and restaurants / pubs. I’m staying overnight in a hotel...can’t wait!

I am aware that there may be knock-on effects on travel because of this heat, but I will leave home extra-early just in case. Maybe you could do that?

Bet I don’t get a complimentary ice cream tomorrow! But it sounds lovely

Skinnermarink · 19/07/2022 13:09

Oh what! All o got was a complimentary cancelled train 🤣

Numbat2022 · 19/07/2022 13:11

If they're running, yes. It's going to be cooler tomorrow but tracks and points might be affected by the weather today. I'm meant to be in London tomorrow but will check the trains before I leave in the morning.

My line (Greater Anglia) is always affected when we go above 30 degrees. I've had years of hurriedly leaving work at 4pm because they start to announce cancellations due to the heat.

dontgobaconmyheart · 19/07/2022 13:30

Hopefully he was joking with the bizarre conspiracy theories or frankly be more worried about him than I would myself on an air conditioned train on a day that isn't predicted to be dangerously hot.

I would keep an eye on the forecast and certainly check the trains before leaving home just in case todays heat caused any long term issues but otherwise can't see a problem. Drink lots, dress coolly. It might not be comfortable but that doesn't make it actively dangerous.

What does your DP anticipate might happen to you?

This seems an odd thing to blame on hackers.

PinkBuffalo · 19/07/2022 17:43

I am going to try again tomorrow as tried travelling today but trains were being cancelled whilst we were actually travelling on them so I never made it had to try get back home and got back at 4pm

Oh dear, this sounds quite worrying Confused

NCHammer2022 · 19/07/2022 17:45

Tomorrow will be fine temperature wise. There may be some residual disruption from the last two days but that will depend on your location and which train operating company.
