I look pregnant but I'm not

Is this just regular bloating and what on earth can I do?

I've always been slim, and I still am slim. However, I've developed literally what looks like a baby bump, like I'm 4 months pregnant.

It grows throughout the day. When I had norovirus, it disappeared completely so that indicated bloating even more to me? Not in any discomfort/pain or anything really and it doesn't hurt to press on.

Does this just sound like bloating? Anyone experienced this? Any way to combat it? For the first time ever, I actually feel really insecure in summer clothes!!

Do you have any other symptoms apart from bloating? Any stomach pain? How are your bowel movements? How are your periods? How old are you?

Ragruggers · 19/07/2022 08:18

I would make an appt.to see your GP.Any new symptoms need checking, maybe food intolerance,IBS,ovarian cancer.DonT want to scare you but can be the first sign. This happened to me.Better to check than leave A blood test CA 125 can be done easily.Good luck.

Fibroids? I had a huge 12cm fibroid that was pushing my tummy out - apart from painful periods, no symptoms to tip me off until I lost some weight and really noticed the lopsided lump.

Have you changed your diet?

Do you have family history of any allergies or intolerances?

Do you have a family history of any cancers?

The problem is if you go to your GP they will start with the most obvious issues so you are unlikely to get a blood test.

No history of allergies, intolerances or cancers!

I'm going to get in touch with the GP today

I’ve had bloating since I was 22… for me it was IBS.

My GP said it was unlikely to be anything serious as I wasn’t permanently bloated and it came on as the day went on!

15 years on, still the same. It’s less noticeable when I’m more toned but frankly I can’t be arsed with weights these days!

Stranger1things · 19/07/2022 09:21

With me it was bloating. I only realised how bad it was when someone asked if I was pregnant....I could go from having a flat stomach one day to the next day looking 6 months pregnant!

MissBPotter · 19/07/2022 09:24

Me too op although I’m not as slim as you (size 12). It’s horrible because it’s impossible to cover up and I basically look awful in everything, whereas I look ok if not bloated. I can’t link it to any foods. Thinking it could be stress/gut health issues. Not sure it’s worth bothering with GP as I think they’ll just say it’s nothing, but I’d be interested to see what they say to you. I’ve had this for a few years now.

@MissBPotter I'm booked on Thursday - I'll make sure to update!

Thanks,
I hope you get some answers or at least tests.

It might be worth having a gluten free day/week to see if that helps? My DD is reducing her gluten and she's noticed much less bloating.

Strawberrypudding · 20/07/2022 07:08

OP are you bloated when you wake up in the morning, or does it gradually get worse throughout the day?

If it's permanent then yes it definitely needs to be checked out.
