Too many goady threads

It strikes me that there seems to be some really goady threads on here just now:

“All degrees are easy” – no they are not. STEM and language degrees, especially from universities that don’t spoon feed the students all the way through are difficult and require the student to apply themselves, actually learn the content and work hard. You can’t get away with skim reading books and bullshitting your way through an essay about organ transplants or cancer biology for instance.

“It isn’t that hot, get a grip” - said by posters who don’t live in cities with no outside space and no easy way of escaping the heat, or by posters who live in hot countries where they have the infrastructure to deal with the heat.

"Don’t be proud of your DC’s achievements" - because it is boasting and insensitive to those whose DC can’t drive/pass exams/other. If a parent is pleased with their DC's success don't rain on their parade by being sour about it. Although I agree that you do need to read the room before imparting good news. I wouldn't dream of saying that DD achieved an A* in a subject to someone whose DC had failed, for example.

I’m glad I got that off my chest.
