I'm eating home made peach cobbler, drinking iced tea and complaining about the heat

I feel as though I should have a southern US drawl and refer to people as "y'all".

Vanilla ice cream on the cobbler btw.

I see your iced tea and raise you a mint julep.

Wolfiefan · 17/07/2022 22:19

I bloody love cobbler! I feel a bit like something out of a T Williams play at the moment.

Kanaloa · 17/07/2022 22:19

Wish I was having peach cobbler 😢 I’ve never had iced tea I liked though. I keep trying it thinking maybe I’ll like it this time - and every time I still dislike it!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 17/07/2022 22:54

I'm drinking Lidl peach iced tea Kanaloa, it's a little too strong for me so I usually add about a third water.

Mint julep sounds great, I'm off to Google a recipe.

Peach cobbler is very easy to make, it's an intermittent pleasure though as I'll only do it when peaches are very cheap, so it doesn't happen every year.

I use this recipe by Pinch of Yum.

Ooh that looks lovely. Interesting to see that frozen peaches are okay to make it.

meow1989 · 17/07/2022 23:26

Oooh I love a peach cobbler. I use the Jamie Oliver recipe and I use tinned peaches in juice and make sure to add a good few slugs of spiced rum and a fair amount of lime zest to it. Delish! (I also highly rate the typing whoch uses pine nuts crushed up). I want this now!!!

Instead I had cheerios then made a cold drinking chocolate with the leftover milk... nowhere near as fancy!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/07/2022 20:07

I had the leftover peach cobbler for breakfast today - I have no regrets. Grin

that peach cobbler looks awesome, I’ll give it a go

picklemewalnuts · 18/07/2022 20:16

I made white currant and gooseberry summer pudding. Yum. With iced coffee.

I've also been drinking iced mint tea, and iced green tea with lemon.

Trulyweird1 · 18/07/2022 20:19

Ginger Peach tea here, with occasional Passion Fruit thrown in the mix. I see your Peach Cobbler and raise you a Key Lime Pie

TheChosenTwo · 18/07/2022 20:32

Is peach cobbler a hot pudding?
I just had chicken, bacon and avocado
salad and am drinking a water! Living on the edge, me 😂

Tiani4 · 18/07/2022 20:42

I've heard of Peach Cobbler but never tried it, is it like mix between a fruit pie/ crumble ?

Anyway have looked up a recipe

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/peach-cobbler

So I may be bribing she on our house who can bake well (DD age 14) to make it over the weekend and buy some
Vanilla icecream to go with it (if the supermarkets restock their ice cream!)
Now is it best served hot or cold?

Tiani4 · 18/07/2022 20:43

Truly weird so you have a good key lime pie recipe? Is that a cheesecake type pudding?

MaxOverTheMoon · 18/07/2022 20:44

Is cobbler the American version of crumble? I have wanted to try it since I was a teenager!

ChinBristles · 18/07/2022 20:55

We all live in Lafayette Square!
Are we in To Kill a Mockingbird?
Or The Help?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/07/2022 20:56

Cobbler is a bit like crumble in that it has fruit at the bottom but the topping is more like shortbread than crumble. It can be served hot or cold, but not straight out of the oven or it will take all the skin off the roof of your mouth (I learned the hard way).

The BBC recipe is quite a long way from the recipe that I use. I wish you and I could have a taste of each other's cobbler to see which recipe is better Tiani4.

@Tiani4
Hairy Bikers mini Gin Key Lime pies are lovely; also Carnation milk have an easy one.
i generally add extra lime though as I like them tart.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/07/2022 20:59

I love gooseberry anything picklemewalnuts but I've never taken to summer pudding even though it featured regularly in my childhood. Gooseberries should always be made into gooseberry fool, dessert of the gods and small children.

MaxOverTheMoon · 18/07/2022 21:01

Thanks OP. So a crumble mix is basically a shortbread mix just rubbed and not made into a dough, is that the difference? I will try it out when it's not so hot.

MaxOverTheMoon · 18/07/2022 21:02

I absolutely love gooseberry fool, I need to go pudding ingredient shopping!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/07/2022 21:11

I didn't rub MaxOverTheMoon I followed this recipe and just stirred with a spatula until all the liquid was absorbed. When it's cooked it's still a little soft and tastes shortbread-y but has a lighter, crispy, gooey texture. It's a really easy recipe no equipment or special techniques needed except a sharp knife, a bowl and a dish to cook it in. All the ingredients are given in cups (American) but my jug has metric, imperial and cups on the side and you don't need to be exact at all. She mentions 'turbinado' sugar to sprinkle on the top, I use demerara to give a crunch. pinchofyum.com/peach-cobbler
